The Expendables 4; Final Film Coming In 2018

Quote:
Sylvester Stallone and his aging crew will return for The Expendables 4 in 2018 -- but after that, they're finally ready to retire.

The news broke via The Hollywood Reporter, who reported it as part of a German rights-acquisition deal. Splendid Film has acquired the rights to the film, as well as the upcoming dramas Home Again and Winchester, across German-speaking Europe.

There isn't much information yet about The Expendables 4, other than the fact that it's expected to start filming soon and that it has a budget of around $100 million. Reports in late 2015 were that it would have started production by now, but Stallone's attachment to numerous awards-season events for the Rocky follow-up Creed may have delayed the start of production. At one point, co-star Terry Crews had joked that Stallone might leave the action franchise behind if he won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award, for which the veteran actor/filmmaker had been nominated.

Stallone is a driving force behind the Expendables films, acting as a producer, contributing to the scripts, and directing the first installment in the series.

The end of the series doesn't necessarily mean the end of the franchise. The Expendables have been one of a number of Lionsgate properties that have been consistently rumored for a TV treatment in recent years (along with Twilight and RED).

Expect The Expendables 4 to be rated R, of course; only one of the movies -- The Expendables 3 -- was rated PG-13, and Stallone later described that decision as a "horrible miscalculation." Generally the PG-13 rating is a decision made to enhance a film's box office potential, but The Expendables 3 underperformed the rest of the franchise significantly. An unrated cut of The Expendables 3 was later released on home video.

Early reports indicated that Chuck Norris, a conservative Christian who appeared in The Expendables 2 and had objected to some of the film's language, wanted a PG-13 rating for the third movie and that the studio hoped to accommodate him. Norris, though, didn't return for the third installment so those reports seem dubious at best.

A $100 million budget still seems well within the realm of reason or The Expendables 4: While the third made less than $40 million domestically (as opposed to $105 million for The Expendables), it also earned $175 million internationally, meaning that it would easily have turned a profit on a $100 million production budget.

No official release date is set for The Expendables 4 yet, which has not yet begun production.

The Expendables films have been sort of a guilty pleasure for me, so I'm glad to hear there will be one last installment. I wonder which action hero icons will cameo in that one.

first one was good if a little slow in places, second one is awesome, third was a bit of a let down but still decent enough. I'm sure this will deliver enough action and odd one liners to be worth watching

I bet The Rock will appear in this one.

I remember the hype when the first one came out. I've never watched any of them.

They're good entertainment movies. I was hoping for more with the Mel Gibson one because he plays a great bad guy.

John Travolta would make a good bad guy, he was good in Broken Arrow and Swordfish.

Vin Diesel would also be good but he's so expensive.

Re: The Expendables 4; Final Film Coming In 2018

Sad to hear it's the last one. I enjoy the concept of The Expendables, bringing back old 80's and 90's action stars that we love and putting them together with current day action stars and it's always fun for me to talk about and speculate on which 80's/90's action guys they could bring in. I love making suggestions for who they should bring in on the next installments. Action is my favourite movie genre and I'm gonna miss The Expendables when it's finished.

Hopefully they can bring Steven Seagal and Jackie Chan in for the last one. The two guys everybody wanted since the beginning but they couldn't get.

I have heard that they want The Rock to play the villain in the next film. Rock deserves to be in the next Expendables movie but he shouldn't play the villain. It doesn't suit him, he's too likeable and he wasn't good as The Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns. John Travolta or Neal McDonough should play the villian in the next movie. But since Travolta is a big name and Neal McDonough already played a main villian, Damien Dhark, in Arrow recently, it should be Travolta. He's played great bad guys before.

Give it a go. I personally like the third one the best. You can't beat Mad Mel. Jean-Claude, and Eric Roberts don't hold a candle to him.

Could they finally get Seagal? Rock or Vin Diesel would be big additions too.

Sean Connery should make some kind of cameo in this new one.

Don't forget about Face/Off too.

Brock, if Seagal is going to be in it this time, he must've had made peace with Avi Lerner the producer of the series. He was the main reason that he didn't do the previous films because of the bad blood between the two. Or it's possible that Sly and Lerner parted ways and Avi has no influence on the new film.

SHUT UP WESLEY

Wasn't Hulk Hogan supposed to be in this one?

The only good one was the 2nd. The 1st and 3rd were utter dog shit.
