Marvel's The Inhumans to IMAX then ABC in fall 2017

Well, I think it's fair to say that none of us saw this coming! There have been rumblings for a while now that the divide between Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios had resulted in The Inhumans being shelved, and it now appears as if those reports were indeed accurate as the project is instead moving forward at Marvel Television in what looks set to be a very unique way of launching a TV series.

Set to premiere on ABC next Fall, the first two episodes will be shot entirely with IMAX digital cameras for a two week run in IMAX theaters worldwide at the beginning of September. The network will then premiere the weekly series later in the Fall
with exclusive extra content which can only be seen there.

Now, many of you are probably thinking that the show will revolve around the not that exciting Inhumans we've seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., right? Well, think again, as the press release confirms that, "Marvel’s The Inhumans" will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family." This obviously makes it clear that we won't be seeing them as part of Phase 4.

Considering the fact that the Marvel movies have largely ignored what happens on ABC and Netflix, chances are this limited IMAX run is the only time we'll see the Inhumans on the big screen.

I'm super stoked for this! Inhumans was a great graphic novel and I always felt that it would suit TV more than film. If you're unfamiliar with the title, Inhumans is like a healthy blend between Game of Thrones and X-Men.

Eh? I always felt it was better suited to TV. Agents of SHIELD is handled very well, especially this season, and the special effects have always been on point. I think this could be great!

I am just not a fan of that ABC style or network TV in general. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D isn't my cup of tea.

I was so looking forward to seeing Black Bolt kicking ass on the big screen.

Never been a big Inhumans fan, one of the few titles I know a lot less about comparatively. Been really bitter about what's been going on with the X titles and Marvel trying to essentially change the dynamics within the comic universe to better meet the limits of the split in the film properties. Sigh, I'm massively biased towards the X-Men though. Could still be good, not like I won't check it out.

Interesting. So, now we'll have 3 Netflix, 3 ABC shows, and 3 movies a year? I'm game!

Should have stuck with the original plan and made it a feature film. The Inhumans is too epic of a comic book to have TV-budget visual effects. That's like buying a Tesla and replacing its tires with some cheap rubber you found in a junkyard. But since this is the MCU and Marvel has yet to lead us astray, I'll give this show a chance.

Have you checked out AOS season 4? That may be your cup of tea. It's, imo, the best comic book show on television, and that includes Walking Dead, Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, etc.

You expect me to sift through three seasons to get to the good stuff.

Like I said, I am just not fond of that network style, there's too many limitations and I often find it incredibly glossy. It's why I lost interested in Flash and Arrow (although that had more problems then that. )

Launching the series on IMAX is a unique and cool idea though. I give them credit for trying something fresh and different.

I am happy you're excited. You never know, maybe it'll win me over.

@Blackbeard

Disney owns ABC and Marvel. So it was inevitable that they'd want to make a legit superhero show. Disney/ABC isn't afraid to waste money on TV shows.

But I agree. Network TV is way too general audiences friendly for me too. This might be different. Time will tell.
