Re: True Detective
Just watched the first two episodes of this in the last 16 hours, and I thank LC for helping me get hooked on another great series.
Seriously, folks, Matthew McConaughey has been on one of the best streaks of any film actor on the planet these last several years: The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) marked the turnaround, and he hasn't looked back. The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie, Killer Joe (he gives a sensational Quentin Tarantino villain performance in a brutal William Friedkin film), The Paperboy (the film's not much but he's good), Mud (he owns it), Magic Mike, best thing about that film, Dallas Buyers Club and even his small but memorable role in The Wolf of Wall Street.
It's like the guy took a timeout after Ghosts of Girlfriends Past in 2009, and with some prodding from the director of The Lincoln Lawyer, decided to quit wasting what he's got. Or something, I don't know, but whatever he's doing, it's working.
I adored his philosophical pessimism talk in the car with Harrelson in the pilot, the conclusion to each episode so far has been positively chilling, compelling and makes me want to see the next episode ASAP. Love it.
