Nah, it's probably that tall politician from E1, his name is popping up every now and then. Tuttle, I think.

Re: True Detective

Marty's wife isn't making it out of this alive.

Can't remember if it was here or somewhere else that someone noted the difference in content between the two present days scenes with Marty and Rust. Definitely think there's something in that. This is a show where there's probably something in every little scene though and the key parts to the puzzle will be so glaringly obvious when they're revealed.

Also ELI.

Re: True Detective

It's one of the two things (maybe three or four to five or six, but I'm going with two since it's simple).

We're either watching one of the best character studies in TV history, in which case, the whodunit doesn't really matter. The point is take a good look at Rust and Marty and actors ACT.

Or yeah, it's a mystery on top of the one of the best character studies in TV history.

Re: True Detective

I think it's fair to call it both really. If they intertwine or not who knows. The setup with the two time eras works really fucking great.

Was it confirmed that it's an anthology setup and we only get this story for this season and then out?

No, even though it seems that the detectives interviewing both guys believe he is.

I definitely think that the Tuttle(?) brothers will have some weird connection/involvement in the murders. I believe they mentioned that one brother is the Governor and the other one is the preacher we met in the 2nd episode I think.

Yeah that was me. Definitely think something's up with that. The current day detectives seem to be more interested in knowing how Rust's mind works and how he is as a person, and his deductions during the case. They only ask Marty about his partner while all questions related to the case are asked to Rust.
