I could be asking a strong contender for the most retarded question of all time here, but what actually constitutes 'words' in the word count? Do reference numbers/links/images/the appenix/spoiler tags/etc. all count as 'words'?
Also what's the best way to verify your word count if you're really close to the limit?
I've had a look for answers to the above but couldn't find anything, so help is appreiated
Any actual words so tables/graphs/etc don't count. If you use quote/etc tags then only the words inside the tags count. You don't need to put your word count, just make sure it's under 800.
My laptop spontaneously died on me and I lost all my notes from the last few days
EDIT: ON THE UPSIDE, MY 7 YEAR OLD LAPTOP WAS FAR FROM HD COMPATIBLE, AND NOW I CAN FINALLY WATCH STREAMS OF WRESTLING AND TV SHOWS WITHOUT PRETTY MUCH DROWNING IN VISUAL FRAGMENTS. PLUS THE MAX AUDIO WENT UP BY LIKE 100%!! HUGE UPSIDE TO AN OTHERWISE SUCKY DAY!!!!

Reason: unexpected excitement
then don't take a "yes" or "no" stance, you should take a "maybe" stance instead and argue that the answer is so uncertain that we can't answer either way. the judges will be so impressed that you took a chance on your stance that you'd be practically guaranteed to win!
