Re: TDL XVIII: THE POINT WAGG LOST INTEREST AT - THE CARD

Okay, as your Social Division Champion, I feel I should weigh in.

Coming from the UK, I think it's a perfectly valid question, as Hanoi The Not Green Anymore Lol pointed out. There is also so much varied news reporting online that widening the question to include it kinda defeats the point of the debate. Including all news media means you can argue either side easily and there really isn't a right or wrong to be argued because the type of news being reported is so varied.

Narrowing the debate to print news only focuses the argument and allows a right/wrong, agree/disagree perspective to be fully argued for.

I absolutely do not have a problem with the topic itself. I think debating negativity in how news is reported is a wonderful debate topic. MY problem is defining the question as a national newspaper topic.

Re: TDL XVIII: THE POINT WAGG LOST INTEREST AT - THE CARD

As someone who doesn't read newspapers much at all and as someone who greatly dislikes some of the television new coverage approach, I can see Tater's point. However, I think limiting it to just newspapers can provide a unique challenge. Hanoi's point of removing National from the question probably helps a bit. Anark is right too. There is too much variation to include all media. It could work if it was only television or only newspaper, but not both IMO.

Anyways, with all of these promos and arguments in this thread, if these debates are anything like those, this show will be awesome.

Look, if the POINT of the debate is to get down with why the physical newspapers report news as they do, I can get down with that. But, if that is the POINT of the debate, that POINT needs to be made clear.

I can argue the point of physical newspapers doing what they need to do to continue selling newspapers.

If I am arguing integrity in journalism, that is an an entirely different debate.

ALL I ask is a little clarification in what exactly I am supposed to be debating here.

Tater, unless there's a glaring error, then it's your job to interpret the question the best way you can (to win the debate, that is). You just made some insightful points which you could have just included in your debate, but have now clued your opponents up with as well.

Re: TDL XVIII: THE POINT WAGG LOST INTEREST AT - THE CARD

Do national newspapers have too much of a negative approach towards reporting news?

Which bit is confusing? Do you know what a national newspaper is? Do you know what news is?

If you answer yes to the last two questions then I can't see the problem.

Re: TDL XVIII: THE POINT WAGG LOST INTEREST AT - THE CARD

So let me ask you this?

What in the actual fuck about this forum says "national" to you?

Am I supposed to be limited to US of Murica news because I live in Hawai'i?

There are so many faults with this debate topic that I cannot even limit them to one country.
