Rumor of Ultimate Warrior Passing Away

During the Rock N' Wrestling Era, rumors had spread that the Ultimate Warrior had died, and at least one other person was used to portray the character.

This was several years before the internet was available to the public. But a lot of people I knew heard the rumor, and according to the "Self Destruction" dvd, so did many others.

How many of you heard that rumor back then? How far back can you trace it?

Edit: I know he didn't really die. I just find it interesting that so many people heard the same rumor, despite the internet not being available to the public then.

Re: Rumor of Ultimate Warrior Passing Away

I remember hearing something vaguely, but of course it wasn't true anyway so it doesn't matter really.

People were only saying it because he looked quite different when he returned, people were questioning if it was the same guy, which of course it was.

That was it.

Let me clear this up.

I know he didn't really die. I just find it interesting that so many people heard the same rumor, despite the internet not being available to the public then.

Re: Rumor of Ultimate Warrior Passing Away

I heard it (halfway around the world too!!). I think it was a story published by one of our newspapers or something. Not sure at all how it spread. But I just didn't wanna believe it. People around me did.

I had absolutely no resources back then to check, so I just left it for a while. The rumours went away by themselves.

Re: Rumor of Ultimate Warrior Passing Away

He did actually die. That Superstars incident in '92 was a stunt gone wrong when they found out Papa Shango did in fact possess black voodoo magic powers, and Warrior passed away as a result of of EGS (Evil Goo Syndrome).

It's why they repackaged Charles Wright as Kama - to avoid any further fatalities, whilst a second Warrior replaced the first at Wrestlemania 8.

RIP Warrior x

Re: Rumor of Ultimate Warrior Passing Away

One of my friends told me that he died.

He had a copy of Wrestlemania 8 he let me borrow and I was hyped about Warrior showing up (at the time, I didn't know anything about the Summerslam '91 situation). And he told me the real Ultimate Warrior died because the new guy had shorter hair and wasn't as big. So, it was believable to me, simply because I didn't see Warrior at the '92 Rumble and there was no mention of him at all on the countdown to the Rumble.

Not to mention, I didn't even really watch WWE faithfully like that until '93 and it wasn't until I began buying those PWI wrestling almanacs that I found out what happened with Warrior in '91.

There was once a guy here this past summer that said Warrior & British Bulldog were the same person because you never saw them at the same place at the same time. He ignored that Warrior teamed with the Bulldogs in '87.

I know you meant it that way dude, don't worry .... the title was misleading though, it's going to make people think it's today's news (possibly should have titled it 'Old rumor of Ultimate Warrior passing away' .. but not to worry), but yeah, it reached the UK also did this rumour so it is kinda crazy really, when this was pre-internet also
