Default Were there SPOILERS and how predictable was the WWF Attitude and nWo/WCW Era?

I used to watch wrestling back in the early 90s mostly wwf. I used to watch wwf superstars on fox as back then I didn't have cable television. We then had cable tv in the mid 90s or so and thats when i watched raw and nitro like almost everyone here. Also around that time, we didn't own a computer. I don't remember exactly when but we didn't have a computer till 2001 or so.

I didn't start posting on the wwf messageboards until 2003 maybe. I did recall i saw lot of posts recalling wwf ppv spoilers etc. But back then, could you find spoilers of wcw and wwe pay per views? If so, when did it start and how accurate were they?

Also since we couldn't watch ppv at the time since we only had cable, the only way i would know who won the matches would be watch wwf raw or wcw nitro the next day. I don't recall that well because i was very young at the time but I did remember a lot of the matches were very unpredictable such as if i had to guess who would win the match, i probably get more than 1/2 right. Such as if there were 8 matches on the card, i probably get 5 right. This is completely different to the wwe now where anyone who watches wrestling can probably even pick the whole card right. Even if you dont read the spoilers from that poster or look at the odds at sport betting sites, you are still going to get at least 5 matches correct out of the 7 matches. If you look at the odds, you are going to get almost everyone right and maybe one wrong.

There were so many matches between mankind and undertaker, that i think if i were predicting them at the time, i woulda been half right and half wrong. There were some matches back then when i thought okay this guy is definitely winning only to find out the next night on raw that he. Then you had the tag team matches between dudleys and hardyz and E and C and i felt like E and C won most of the matches but still they were all pretty close. Such as E and C wining most of it, but hardys wasn't that far behind and then dudlez i think won the least amount. But still they were all pretty close. Even the matches between the rock and triple h, i recall it was pretty close as well though im sure rock won most of the matches.

Were there spoilers back then? If so how accurate were they? And how predictable/nonpredictable were the matches? I did recall on smackdown, lot of matches back then were sort of predictable such as no way this guy would lose the wwe title to the other guy etc. But on PPV's how predictable were wcw and wwe matches?

I mean there was a time where RAW was live one week, and taped the next, I didn't find wrestling forums until....2008. So nothing was predictable to me.That and I was younger.

All of that to basically ask the same damn question the thread title was asking?

I'm pretty sure there were spoilers back in the day. RAW was taped. Heck, it's a well known fact that the demise of WCW began when Bischoff gave away the results of the RAW Taping where Foley won the WWE title. So, there was spoilers as there was the internet back then as well as various newsletters. How many people read them back then, I dunno.

There may have been, but not as popular or easy accessible as now! With the explosion of the internet, it's fucking hard for something to stay secret.

All you had to do was watch Nitro and Bischoff or some other announcer would give you the Raw spoilers.

As far as PPV. There were rumors of guys dropping belts, leaving etc. all over the internet back then too.

I never really knew of any spoilers back in those days. Closest thing to a spoiler I heard was Chris Jericho coming to WWF, except the hotline butchered the fuck out the report and said he was coming in as "X-Calibur" and was joining DX. But even then, I didn't believe none of that shit and was totally surprised when Jericho showed up on RAW.

Another thing is the spoilers were hard to come by. While the internet was still around, the hotlines were probably the easiest way to get information. However, them shits cost an arm & a leg and never really revealed spoilers in the sense of results of a taped show, just news and guys jumping ship.

I didn't have the internet until late 2001 and I didn't sign up for a wrestling forum until 2009 so I can't tell you if there were spoilers around back then (although I'm certain there was, considering Raw was on a live and taped alternating schedule... heck WCW used to spoil WWF shows, nevermind the internet).

As for how predictable it was - I can only speak for the WWF but even as a kid you catch onto the sort of tropes of pro-wrestling and predict what is going to happen and when. But then sometimes they'd swerve you and you'd be totally shocked and that's what kept it exciting and kept you watching.

IE everyone and their mother was sure Austin was going to win the 1999 Royal Rumble, even though he had won the last 2 and it seemed so obvious it was going to be him - no one thought it'd be anyone else, nevermind Vince McMahon. That's just an example of avoiding the obvious and predictable because they could still get the same end result out of it anyway.

I remember at wm15 michael cole sort of gave away the result of the main event when he said that we will hear from the new wwf champion.
