If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

Interesting thread on WCW trying to sign The Rock yesterday and what effect that would've had on The Monday Night Wars.

It got me thinking about TMNW and how things could have been different. I started thinking about the strange booking in WCW and how much lost potential there was because guys like Hogan and Nash had masses of control and then I started thinking about the NWO and how much that escalated and lost it's meaning.

Which brings me to my question, and the point of this thread...

If WCW had managed to win The Monday Night Wars, how do you think they would've dealt with the invasion angle?

It's well known that in WWF, the invasion angle was a flop, they never signed anyone major for the angle (i.e Goldberg, Sting, Hogan). The guys they did sign, they underused and had their own roster jump around the teams which essentially was Vince saying 'Hey, no one is better than me'.

Things to consider:
- Do you think guys like Austin and Rock would have jumped to WCW if WWF folded?
- Would the guys like Jericho, Guerrero who first hand witnessed the mess of WCW go back?
- There was no ONE MAN like in WCW like there was in WWF. Yes they had Bischoff but he was easily influenced by those in power around him. How does this change the whole ego thing of 'My company is better than yours, now let me show the world'? No one was really a 'WCW man' like Vince was a 'WWF man'.
- Would the Hogan's and Nash's be willing to put the WWF stars for the sake of the angle?
- How would the NWO fit in to things? Would they be brought back to start a WCW vs NWO vs WWF?

Re: If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

-Austin/Rock/HHH/Taker would have jobbed to the likes of Hogan/Nash etc if they had joined WCW.

-Vince McMahon would have joined Eric Bischoff's Kiss My Ass Club

-Sting vs Hogan would have replaced Austin vs McMahon as the GOAT rivalry

They would have fallen under their own shield, If the catastrophic booking continued and there would of been no main star wrestling company to make the entertainment and pureness of the sport relevant in today's world. My 2' cents personally.

Re: If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

WCW collapsed of its own volition and the brand name was so badly considered it was unable to get TV time and sold for peanuts. Therefore it is hard to imagine things being any different. My guess is it would have collapsed and someone would have bought it taking advantage of the lack of competition. That or ECW may have survived by getting a good TV deal and becoming steadily profitable. Who knows though...

D Lo Brown -

On any given night in 2000 there were 10, 12 million people watching Nitro and Raw. In 2005 there's been 2 1/2 million. So where did 9 1/2 million people go? They didn't just die. They turned the channel.

Re: If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

Assuming this had taken place-

-Vince never screws Bret, Bret never loses the belt in a match before entering WCW
-At Starcade '97, Sting cleanly beats Hogan, no controversy
-WWF never brings in Mike Tyson, and WWF folds in early 1998

WCW didn't create many new stars, but did use stars made in WWF. Austin and Rock were not regular main eventers at this point, and probably wouldn't be in WCW either. Even though Austin was close.

The n.W.o. angle was still going strong, so there would be 3 factions- WCW, n.W.o., and WWF.

Bret Hart would stay on WCW's side because of what Vince did to him. Vince has always put aside his personal feelings for the sake of business. So I guess he would join WCW himself, even though he' be embarrassed by it. (That's a tough call though.) Vince already had the idea of becoming a full character on tv, and I think he'd suggest it to WCW and they'd go for it.

Shawn Michaels would be WWF's top wrestler, saying he doesn't get injured in January 98. He have won the belt after Bret vacated it. The top henchmen beneath him would be Austin, Rock, Shamrock, Undertaker, Kane, Foley (using all 3 faces), Triple H, and maybe Goldust.

WCW's top guys for the angle would be Sting, Luger, Giant, etc. The guys they had back then. Goldberg would be a henchman, and wouldn't be a main eventer until the angle was over. He'd have a small feud with Austin, and Goldberg would go over.

During the angle certain wrestlers who were stars in WWF would tease joining Vince's faction. Savage, Piper, Hall, Nash, and even Hogan.

Owen would get signed by WCW, as well as Bulldog and Neidhart, and they'd back up Bret again. Bret would have a side rivalry with Michaels, as both could rightfully claim to be the WWF Champ. Bret would lose a big match to Michaels for the WWF title.

Hogan would eventually win a rematch with Sting for the WCW title. In the end, Hogan would beat Michaels and unify the WCW and WWF title.

Everything would go on for a year and a half, I'd say.

Re: If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

It's been my feeling for awhile that had WCW won the Monday Night Wars then there currently wouldn't be a major wrestling company in North America. It would be a shit ton of small wrestling fed's all across Canada & the U.S. trying to become what the WWF was.

If Vince had had to sell, I'm sure if WCW did fold somewhere down the line, he would have been first in line to buy the WWF & anything else he could get his hands on.

I just can't see WCW, the way it was structured under Turner, lasting past 2005-2006. Maybe had Bischoff's group been able to buy the company & keep it on Turner's networks it would still exist...

Trust Me

WCW only ever created one new star...Just the one during the Ted Turner Bichoff years...
And that one star was Goldberg....
Every other star had either been created by Vince years earlier or were stars poached from ECW and Mexico...

Re: If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

Some random company like TNA or ROH would now be the number one wrestling promotion in North America.

Seriously, WCW was too poorly run to last. I still think they would have eventually went out of business no matter what happened to WWE.

Re: If WCW had won the Monday Night Wars...

Sting... Steiner (kind of a star... I guess)... Booker T... Goldberg... Rey Mysterio... Benoit to a degree...

But yeah, WCW had a better roster in 1996-1998 than WWF, but shat all over their midcard talent that had potential for the Main Event (Guerrero, Jericho, Benoit), once they left it was over for WCW.
