Yeah, Billy Gunn stands out as a terrible decision to win KOTR, but then looking at the tournament brackets, there wasn't a lot of choice (Chyna, X-Pac, Hardcore Holly or Road Dogg - Jesus Christ, talk about lacklustre). I reckon Ken Shamrock was the original choice.

I'd imagine it probably would have been a bad business decision if it was executed, but I believe that it would also be true, just because in this days King Mable was on a roll, so it did come very close to happening, though I find myself thankful it didn't, one of the few times I think the Kliq actually did something good for the business.

Shamrock won it the year before though. It wouldn't surprise me if it was Big Show since he was on the poster for that year.

Holy shit. We dodged a bullet there. Bad News was the king of the no-finish/double countout, garbage 80s finishes.

Sid was slated to win the World Title in 1991 before he jumped to WWF. He was also slated to win it in 1993 but the stabbing incident cancelled that.

Widely circulated that Rick Steiner was supposed to go over Flair for the title at Starrcade '88 but Flair threatened to quit.

Not really a title run but Flair was pushing for a main event title program with "Stunning" Steve Austin that seemingly was scrapped upon Hogan's arrival.

The Steiners were supposed to win the tag titles at WM 10 but due to disagreements with Vince over pay and them working dates in NJPW, they were taken off the show.

Default Re: Wrestling Rumors & Title Runs

I've heard that rumour about Mabel having a title run & I've heard that he was supposed to get a customized King of the Ring title to wear as well.
The only place I've heard these rumours though were from shoot interviews with Mabel himself.

Rumours I've heard are (I'll try not to repeat):
Bob Holly was supposed to have a lengthy Intercontinental title run in 1995.

Eddie Guerrero was going to defeat Batista for the World Heavyweight title before his untimely death.

Curt Hennig was slatted for a Heavyweight title run in late 1991 or early 1992 before his back injury.

Bam Bam Bigelow & Tatanka were going to win the WWF Tag Team titles at the 1995 Royal Rumble, but the finish was changed to the Kid & Bob Holly because nobody saw it coming.

Tatanka was going to win the Intercontinental title at Wrestlemania 9, but Shawn cried & got the finish changed.

Shane Douglas was supposed to defeat Michaels for the Intercontinental title at the In Your Hosue PPV in October 1995, but Shawn ran his mouth & got his ass kicked by some (I think) Marines.
Then Hall talked Vince into having him defeat Douglas the same night.

Adam Bomb was supposed to win the Intercontinental title in 1994, but Hall complained & no title for Adam Bomb.

Power & Glory were originally scheduled to win the WWF tag team titles from the Hart Foundation at Wrestlemania 7. However, Hogan pulled some strings & had his buddies, the Nasty Boys win them instead.

Hogan & Brutus Beefcake were scheduled to win the WWF tag team titles from Money Incorporated at Wrestlemania 9, but Hogan changed the finish because he felt that he was too big of a name to hold the tag team titles.
(Couldn't do a favour for his best friend, the Barber?)

The "Mr. Perfect" gimmick almost went to Terry "Red Rooster" Taylor

The original plan for Wrestlemania 6 was Hulk Hogan vs. Zeus, but Zeus had such a poor reaction from the fans the year before, that Vince scrapped the idea.

Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair was the original main event for Wrestlemania 8, but their house show matches were lackluster & Hogan felt that his opponent should be someone who was physically larger than him.

The Brawl for All tournament was designed for "Dr. Death" Steve Williams to win. The idea was that the main event for Wrestlemania 15 would have been "Stone Cold" vs. "Dr. Death".

The original plan for the summer of 1993 was: Hulk Hogan vs. Bret Hart for the WWF title, where Hogan would put Bret over. And leading into the fall of 1993 Bret & Hennig would have continued their feud, only this time for the WWF Heavyweight title.

I thought the plan was for Vader to win it at Survivor Series, hyping up the Rumble where Shawn gets it back in his hometown. Basically, everything they did with Sid was supposed to be done with Vader.

I got a few more.

Under pressure, Vince Russo wanted Tank Abbot to win the WCW World Title.

WCW originally wanted Rob Van Dam to come in under a "Mortal Kombat type gimmick" (Glacier?)

Back in 1994, ECW/Shane Douglas had plans to run a 3 match series with Ric Flair (1 match in North Carolina, 1 in Pittsburgh and the finale at the Spectrum in Philly.

According to the Observer, there were plans in the mid 90s to bring Chris Benoit to WWE to team with Owen Hart.

Regarding Chris Benoit's World Title "win" in WCW, Kevin Sullivan told Sid prior to the match that when Benoit puts him in the crossface, make sure he got his foot under the rope, in order to get out of the jam of Benoit's eventual departure.

Billy Gunn had the look and the in ring ability. His charisma was lacking. If he had a solid gimmick and a manager he would have been money

New Age Outlaws was money.

They took 2 guys who SUCKED as singles wrestlers, put them together and let them be themselves (damn near the same formula for nearly EVERYBODY in the AE).

Road Dogg the same way. If they were never put together, they were good as fired because they lacked too much shit to be used properly as singles wrestlers. Look at they careers. Nothing memorable outside of tag team wrestling and that's because they were never good enough to make it on their own, although Billy was a better wrestler and Road Dogg seemed kind of lazy.
