What Kind Of Opponents Did You Prefer For Shawn Michaels?

Shawn Michaels is one of, if not the best worker of all time. He had many great matches with many different wrestlers.

What kind of opponents did you prefer seeing him wrestle against?

Smaller, technical wrestlers like Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, and Chris Benoit?

Guys who are half way between a small man and a hoss, like Triple H, Batista, and Razor Ramon?

Or the real big guys like Sid, Undertaker, and Diesel?

Most wrestlers have their best matches against smaller wrestlers, the guys around 6 feet tall and 220 lbs. or so. But Michaels performed exceptionally well against the real big guys. The guys who have a much harder time having good matches.

I'm going with the hosses, like Undertaker and Diesel. HBK told the underdog story better than anyone. His HIAC match with taker and his WM 25 match were the two best matches of his career, in my opinion.

What's your choice?

^^ Jericho doesn't fall in the middle. He's a smaller guy under 6 feet.

No one comes close to Taker..... But if there was someone who comes in 2nd place it's definitely Jericho.

Shawn and Bret matches were somewhat disappointing IMO.

Top 10 all time favorites:

Stone Cold Steve Austin
The Undertaker
Shawn Michaels
Chris Jericho
Brock Lesnar
Kurt Angle
HHH
Edge
CM Punk
Kane (98-04)

-I don't think it mattered much.Shawn Michaels was able to put up a good match with almost anybody.

-If I have to choose one,I would chose people like Diesel/UT.It's not because Shawn could perform better against them. It's because I found their matches extremely boring unless they were involved with superior workers like Shawn/Bret/Angle.

Re: What Kind Of Opponents Did You Prefer For Shawn Michaels?

Honestly, I find it difficult to choose, because I look back at all his matches, him being the all-arounder he was, a lot of them did stick out with me, his stuff with Bret was classic, everything he did with Taker was fun to watch, even his stuff with Razor Ramon and HHHm also classic. Another that comes to mind was the athletic wrestlers, such as Benjamin, I remember that match so well, I could probably call the play-by-play from it, that's how much it stood out for me.

So I really could not find myself choosing, since each style from each wrestler stood out for me when Michaels was in the ring, so I can't honestly, pick what opponent I would pick.

Just about anyone not named Triple H. Can't get into their matches but I literally enjoy almost any match Shawn had.

Re: What Kind Of Opponents Did You Prefer For Shawn Michaels?

Really difficult to choose when he's had great matches with all types. Obviously, his matches with Taker and Jericho stand out. Can't go wrong with any of those matches. And those guys are complete opposites when it comes to size and style (Taker and Jericho).

A match I've always enjoyed alot but have been enjoying alot more recently is his Mind Games match with Mankind. At the time, Mankind was unlike any wrestler HBK had ever faced before in regards to style and even character. And Mick is obviously bigger than Shawn, but not a crazy amount bigger like 'Taker is. The back and forth action, with alittle bit of hardcore mixed in that wasn't over the top really made that match great. Not to mention the character work. HBK at that time was booked like a white-meat babyface and needed an edge to his character, and that match gave it to him. Just a superb match.

Looking back on the matches he had with Diesel, Sid, and Vader (putting Taker aside for the moment) make it hard to overlook his matches with big guys. The April '96 IYH match with Diesel was a superb fast paced brawl that I didn't even know Nash was capable of not getting winded in a match like that. The match with Sid at Survivor Series '96, I think is pretty close to as good as you're going to see out of Sid. The match with Vader at SummerSlam '96 doesn't get a ton of recognition, but that also was a fun match.
