Re: Why Kevin Nash did not wrestle at WM18?
I've heard a few things, most notably that Scott Hall was not expected to make it to WM18, but the nWo was to be felt at the show. Originally, Hogan was offered to Austin, but a finish couldn't be agreed on. Austin felt he was more relevant to the era and felt he should've won. While Hogan felt he should've. Well, as we all know The Rock pinned Hogan anyway. So, I don't think it was a case of Hogan not doing the job. I think it was as case of heat between the two because of WCW. The Rock, never been there, didn't have the issues Austin had win Hogan, Bischoff etc., so it was just a better working environment for The Rock vs Hogan.
Austin has said that Hall wasn't the best opponent for him and that he should've taken Hogan. He makes it sound like he was never offered Hogan to begin with. But, I believe he was offered Hogan. Now, who Austin really wanted to face at 18 was Chris Benoit. He loved working with Benoit and wanted to work a Mania program with. Still, Wrestlemania X8 was going to be known for the nWo.
So, with Hogan vs The Rock set. Who would the other nWo members face? I think Hall was thrown to Austin by process of elimination. So, who was Nash set to face? That came down to the Brothers of Destruction. Rumor was Nash vs Taker, but they already faced at Wrestlemania and it wasn't really needing to be redone. So Kane vs Nash is the closest I've heard to a lock for a Kevin Nash match at 'Mania.
Why didn't it happen? Well, as stated before Hall wasn't seen as reliable. I think had Hall not made it, they would've just scrapped the nWo all together, but still have gone with Hogan vs The Rock. It was a huge match nWo or not.
Now you know how I mentioned Austin vs Benoit? Austin wanted that match from a mile away, but he wasn't ready to return from injury in time, so the third and forth and final proposed wrestlemania match was Kurt Angle, but Hall ended up staying at least until Mania.
So, why not Kane vs Nash? That was a proposed match after Taker vs Nash was scrapped. Kane had a match on raw with Angle that impressed a lot of the right people, so they thought they could would a great match for wrestlemania. The mania match didn't live up to expectations.
Still, Kane vs Angle wasn't as big a priority as the nWo at Wrestlemania, but with Triple H vs Jericho, Austin against the nWo, Undertaker vs Flair, Benoit injured and The Rock vs Hogan. That doesn't leave Angle with a lot of options. Why didn't the go with Angle vs Perfect? Hell if I know, but after the Rumble it didn't look like Hennig was that high a priority.
Kevin Nash's quad did have some issues, which is why I believe if Hall would've failed the nWo angle would've been scrapped completely, but Hall ended up staying, and the Austin vs Hall match stayed on the books with it looking like a handicapped match. (not saying it was going to be a 2 on 1, but it was going to be a 1 on 1 with Nash looking like more than just moral support).
