Why Kevin Nash did not wrestle at WM18?

I started watching wrestling since mid 1996,Kevin Nash was in WCW at the moment part of the Outsiders/NWO.He always struck ME as a charismatic performer: great looks, great mic skills, entertaining in ring performer. And I was a great fan of his apart from being fan of the NWO as a group.

When he came back to WWE in 2002,I really was elated. But once I found out that he won't compete at Mania, was really disappointed.

So what was the real reason Big Daddy Cool didn't had a match, because he was competing on RAW/SD prior to WM18?

THE ROCK: The biggest star and draw of pro-wrestling industry EVER.

1.Holds the record of drawing most major shows with 10,000+ attendance on top in one calendar year.[Broke Hogan's(1986) and Austin's(1998) record in 1999 and set a record of headlining over 100 shows with 10,000 plus people in attendance in year 2000.A box-office drawing record that is unsurpassed till date.]

2.Holds the record of main-eventing almost 17 PPVs that have got over 500k buys(again,a feat of inimitable drawing power that is unmatched by anyone in pro-wrestling history)

3.Drew the highest cable ratings during the AE.

4.Sold more merchandise than anyone active between mid 1999-2001.

I've heard 2 stories.

One was that he was injured.

The other was WWE had little faith in Hall not fucking up and had Nash on standby.

He tore his quad getting out of bed that morning. But seriously, I remember reading he was injured. Would have loved to see Outsiders vs. Austin and someone else.

The original plan was to do Nash vs Taker. Taker didn't like it and had it changed to him vs Flair.

I think they chose Hall instead of Nash to face Austin because Hall and Austin better mash wrestling and character wise.

Part of what I heard about that was the "plan" being Nash vs. Kane.

Angle vs. Perfect
Kane vs. Nash

Were rumoured matches for WM18, but i'm sure they had Nash as backup incase Hall messed up, cant remember if Nash had explained it in any shoot interviews (like that Outsiders one).

Re: Why Kevin Nash did not wrestle at WM18?

Yup i thought the story was it was going to be

Hogan vs Rock
Hall vs Austin
Nash vs Taker

so the nwo was taking on the biggest 3 wwe had to offer. But with the Hall alcohol problems they felt they would need a back up plan in case hall was incapable of wrestling or no showed so the Taker/Flair match was created to keep Nash free.

Wrestlemania 30 was awesome

3 Axxess events
Hogan VIP
Flair VIP
Wrestlecon session 1
Hall Of Fame Section 113 Row 11 Seat 1
Wrestlemania Section 140 Row 20 Seat 14.
Monday Night Raw Section 123 Row 16 seat 6

Re: Why Kevin Nash did not wrestle at WM18?

Thanks guys,I think the standby reports seem to be correct cause Nash was wrestling regulary on Raw/Smack-Down prior to WM18.

But damn,we really missed him on that occassion.A match with Taker or Kane would have been awesome.

aka Diesel vs Fake Diesel

Seriously, with Kane vs Nash and Angle vs Hennig, the undercard would have been much better. I thought Angle vs Hennig was the direction when Hennig had a fantastic comeback at the Rumble.

Re: Why Kevin Nash did not wrestle at WM18?

I've heard a few things, most notably that Scott Hall was not expected to make it to WM18, but the nWo was to be felt at the show. Originally, Hogan was offered to Austin, but a finish couldn't be agreed on. Austin felt he was more relevant to the era and felt he should've won. While Hogan felt he should've. Well, as we all know The Rock pinned Hogan anyway. So, I don't think it was a case of Hogan not doing the job. I think it was as case of heat between the two because of WCW. The Rock, never been there, didn't have the issues Austin had win Hogan, Bischoff etc., so it was just a better working environment for The Rock vs Hogan.

Austin has said that Hall wasn't the best opponent for him and that he should've taken Hogan. He makes it sound like he was never offered Hogan to begin with. But, I believe he was offered Hogan. Now, who Austin really wanted to face at 18 was Chris Benoit. He loved working with Benoit and wanted to work a Mania program with. Still, Wrestlemania X8 was going to be known for the nWo.

So, with Hogan vs The Rock set. Who would the other nWo members face? I think Hall was thrown to Austin by process of elimination. So, who was Nash set to face? That came down to the Brothers of Destruction. Rumor was Nash vs Taker, but they already faced at Wrestlemania and it wasn't really needing to be redone. So Kane vs Nash is the closest I've heard to a lock for a Kevin Nash match at 'Mania.

Why didn't it happen? Well, as stated before Hall wasn't seen as reliable. I think had Hall not made it, they would've just scrapped the nWo all together, but still have gone with Hogan vs The Rock. It was a huge match nWo or not.

Now you know how I mentioned Austin vs Benoit? Austin wanted that match from a mile away, but he wasn't ready to return from injury in time, so the third and forth and final proposed wrestlemania match was Kurt Angle, but Hall ended up staying at least until Mania.

So, why not Kane vs Nash? That was a proposed match after Taker vs Nash was scrapped. Kane had a match on raw with Angle that impressed a lot of the right people, so they thought they could would a great match for wrestlemania. The mania match didn't live up to expectations.

Still, Kane vs Angle wasn't as big a priority as the nWo at Wrestlemania, but with Triple H vs Jericho, Austin against the nWo, Undertaker vs Flair, Benoit injured and The Rock vs Hogan. That doesn't leave Angle with a lot of options. Why didn't the go with Angle vs Perfect? Hell if I know, but after the Rumble it didn't look like Hennig was that high a priority.

Kevin Nash's quad did have some issues, which is why I believe if Hall would've failed the nWo angle would've been scrapped completely, but Hall ended up staying, and the Austin vs Hall match stayed on the books with it looking like a handicapped match. (not saying it was going to be a 2 on 1, but it was going to be a 1 on 1 with Nash looking like more than just moral support).
