Come on are you serious Bret Hart is almost the best wrestler EVER. Best pure "wrestler" ever as far as in-ring skills. Nobody sold like Bret and combined with his technical abilities he also had underrated incredible strength(see his match with Andre the giant in Milan).
I love Benoit in the ring just as much as I love Bret Hart but Benoit twice as good as Bret?.......come on!

Re: Bret vs Angle...

Would have been one of the best wrestling matches ever. If I had to pick a year, I would go with 1997 Bret Hart vs. 2003 Kurt Angle.

I would pick Bret of 1990-1995 as far is pure wrestling is concerned. In addition to being a technical wizard, he was so damn fast in the ring when he was younger.

I believe he also said that Curt Hennig was overrated, for what it's worth.

Maybe it's just his (bad) taste.

Re: Bret vs Angle...

I wouldn't put off anyone, saying Benoit was/is better than Bret in the ring department, cause well, He is. Bret's definitely better than Angle though, That dunce dosen't know the meaning of the words, Psychology and Storytelling.

Re: Bret vs Angle...

If Bret's career didn't end and he didn't suffer that stroke, the best place for this match would have been WrestleMania X8 in Toronto, Canada.

In that scenario, I would have had Angle go over Austin & Jericho at Vengeance 2001 to become the first ever Undisputed Champion. Jericho in this scenario would remain a face, still over with the crowd. Jericho would challenge Angle for a rematch at Royal Rumble 2002, only to lose again via screwjob thanks to Chris Benoit. This will lead to Jericho-Benoit feud.

At Royal Rumble, at No. 30, "Hart Attack" would tear through the arena and Bret Hart would make his triumphant return to WWE after 4+ years. Bret would end up winning the Royal Rumble to set up Angle vs Bret for the Undisputed Championship at WMX8.

Meanwhile, in the same Rumble match a returning Triple H would eliminate Austin, who after getting eliminated would re-enter the ring and put Triple H over the top rope. This would lead to HHH attacking Austin at No Way Out in his Championship match against Angle, leading to Austin-Triple H match at WMX8 (much better than Hall vs Austin).

Vince would still bring nWo at No Way Out but they would first confront Undertaker in the back (like they confronted Rock, Austin and Brock in 2002) instead of Austin, and then The Rock, but "before" his match vs Undertaker instead if "after" his match. During Rock-Undertaker match, nWo would interfere and lay out both men. This would set up two matches for WMX8 (as explained later).

In the end we would get the most decorated WrestleMania card ever:
# Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart for WWE Undisputed Championship (irrespective of the winner, a great match)
# Hollywood Hogan vs The Rock in Icon vs Icon match (same outcome)
# Undertaker & Kane vs Hall & Nash (BOD win)
# Triple H vs Steve Austin (HHH goes over)
# Jericho vs Benoit (Canadians would mark out for this one,Jericho wins)
# Flair vs McMahon (their RR match would take place here)
# Rest of the card remains the same

Bret Hart would put over Angle big time in this match. They could go the traditional face-heel route, but with a Canadian smark crowd, the match and both the participants would get epic reactions.

Re: Bret vs Angle...

In this day and age, Bret would be expected to alter his style a little bit. He used a few too many rest holds compared to today's good workers. Today's fans might find him boring.

If Bret used a minimal amount of rest holds in a match against Angle, then their match would be considered a technical masterpiece by today's fan base.

I wouldn't mind a superstar with a martial arts background but it is called Wrestling which is especially intended for multi-styled grapples. And there is a difference between working a submission style, and just being lazy and using rest holds repeatedly. Bret was a damn fine technician who could get an entertaining match even out of a non wrestler.
