just watched raw and a pretty good show again, the lights seemed far too dull. usual great promos better than wcw some crappy matches as usual nice to see the arena jam packed (were wwf/wcw selling out every week were ever they were?) not watched nitro im going to stick it on just now whilst the kids are sleeping

Great thread. I agree that Shawn and his promos were just odd.

hogan promo typical hogan -3/10
ultimate gragon vs ray mondoza- sloppy boring match -3/10
billy kidman vs glacier not a very good match need to skip it

ice train with a chubby teddy long vs la parka -1/10
4 horseman seg- 2/10
dam debra sucks on the mic and mongo even ric flair couldnt save this.
harlem heat vs stieners- damm thought this was gonna be good obviously not- run in from public enemy and some other tag team from the crowd-3/10
Mike enos vs dean malenko- not even dean could save this match-3/10 only coz syxx stole the belt
some guys with jimmu hart, konnan and some old fat dude -0/10
ddp vs unnamed guy who ran to the ring
super calo vs alex wright. skip 0-10 crap finish dodgy dropkick
benoit vs konnan- 7/10 only because jacki got hit with a cup or something lol
JJ vs steve the mongo mcmichael- 0/10

fat piper and hogan segment - piper acting all scared dosn't make sense even for him to beat them both up at the end, not the greatest but not the worse moment struggling to give this anything more than a 5-10

total nitro 4/10

sure they had a lot of crap matches and the show kinda sucked. still think raw was better this week

How come Raw was in the Superdome? Was the Rumble there and they filmed Raw as well? Seems like a huge arena for just a Raw, a Raw that wasn't even a complete Raw, if you understand.

Loved the brawl at the start of the show. Stone Cold was such a great character at this point, and something WWF did perfectly for the first few years. I really like the fact that it's heel VS heel as well with Austin/Vader, something as small as that is just something I really enjoyed from these times.

Edit: Is anyone else getting adverts on Dailymotion every 5 minutes? It's for cancer research so I'm not sure if it's just for today or something, but I've never had it before. I don't mind it, can understand why they're doing it, just wondered if it was a new things or just for me as an Uploader?

Yeah same here man, I don't mind them as it's 30 seconds every 5 minutes and it's for a good cause so can't say I have a problem with them, just didn't know if it was just me.

Think the Austin/Vader match was great, short segment that helped build to the 4 way at the PPV. Really enjoyed the fact that they were "no DQ" at the end and fought round the ring, something I suppose we don't appreciate nowadays but back then was a big deal and a great way to hype the upcoming match.

As Jim Ross was walking with the Nation, I thought I had forgot and at one point he was in the NOD Imagine that?

I've been thinking a bit about the Gang Wars storyline, and how it's given a lot of flak for being "wrestle-crap", however I think on paper it's not too bad. If you've not seen it, gonna get a bit spoiler-ish for the next few months here...

The 3 leaders of the group all splitting and forming their own factions was pretty cool I thought; Faarooq building a stable of tough African-Americans, Crush forwarding his gimmick and creating a biker stable, and Savio going the hispanic route. On paper, that's not a bad idea at all, and makes sense. You had 3 former allies splitting, hating each-other, getting their allies to help them and creating a bitter dispute between the 3. If this was handled better, and perhaps all 3 teams were given as much emphasis as the Nation was, then I think it could have been a great storyline.

Future-spoilers over.

I thought this was Royal Rumble Raw, where they showed you pretty much the complete Rumble, didn't realise it was just highlights of the event. Think I would have watched it sooner if I realised.

I don't know if it was an intentional bait and switch, but it was originally billed as Hour 1: Rumble match replay; Hour 2: RAW. Maybe there was a rights issue and they couldn't show the whole match, or maybe Vince was just being extra sneaky (and it sort of worked. Raw's ratings for Hour 1 were identical to Nitro's).

Mcmahon doesn't seem to miss an oppurtunity to drill the fact that they will follow up on promised matches... "No bait and switch here folks" heard that phrase a lot since we started these threads. Not been following Nitro as much as RAW so assuming the bait and switch must have been the norm for them at this time.

Before this started, the Nation of Domination with The Rock and Farooq was the only carnation of the group i knew, quite cool seeing them here. One question, whats with the manager dude that comes with the Nation doing with Owen Hart also?
