Nitro:

-Great match between Dean and Eddie. Haven't seen their PPV followup a little later, so I'm super excited for when that comes up. Man, Eddie was just churning out great matches left and right during this time, wasn't he?
-The DDP fakeout is one of my favorite moments in Nitro's history. I was a total mark for the NWO back then and even the 12 year-old me became a DDP fan overnight after that.
-4 Horsemen drama is just ridiculous.
-Giant and Hogan. Ugh. As bad in reality as it is on paper. That said, they did a great job hyping the match and The Giant as a threat to take the title back home.

Can't wait to watch the Sullivan/Benoit brawl. Hopefully it's as good as I remember.

Rose coloured glasses, indeed.

That was some craptacular wrestling. Every. Single. Match.
Golddust looked decent here, and I forgot how fast he used to move.

Now on to the other stuff. The storytelling is light years ahead of what we have now. Interference in matches - making it seem personal. Ganging up on a single guy - making it seem personal. Factions putting differences by the wayside - making it seem personal. I'm more interested in what happens next week, than tonights RAW three weeks before 'mania. How wrong is this?

Big thanx to the OP and on to Nitro.

Craptacular. Makes Cena look like Malenko. It's that bad.

Yeah no question, some of the action was poor back then.

That's another reason why I think doing this is a good idea, just measuring what really happened against what we think of it in our head. There's no way to do it correctly because the world has obviously changed, but be interesting to see how certain things stand the test of time.

I'm going to upload the next one tonight, and include The Royal Rumble.

Yeah Nitro was so much better in this weeks edition than Raw. Raw was bad overall. All the matches sucked, Sid had a good promo for well...Sid. If that means anything. Stone Cold's interference was great, build up of feuds have been good with interference's etc. Some of Bret's commentary like saying the WWF was a lawless land I thought was interesting and its a really telling prelude of what's about to come and the meltdown of Bret Hart as a character (and then eventually with the WWF altogether).

But yeah, Raw sucked.

The Sid promo was definitely the best part of Raw for me, while HBK's was lackluster. As a kid I marked for HBK but if I was watching it for the first time today I'd be pulling for Sid. He was just so much more interesting to watch.

HBK's character definitely needed a bit of a tweak. Thankfully that'll be coming soon...

First of all thanks a lot Issues_Sunshyne for organising this, it's going to fun reliving the Monday Night Wars each week.

I stopped watching wrestling in about 1995 and didn't get back into it until 1998 so missed these episodes the first time they aired.
One of the first things that struck me was how small time Raw felt compared to Nitro. It looked like an episode of Superstars from 93.

This is such a great idea, I'm only new to this forum but this is definitely the best thing about it! I know I'm a bit behind but I'll try my best to catch up over the coming days so we can all be on the same page! Thanks for uploading it all though, it's very much appreciated!

Interesting that everyone is talking about how bad Crushes chokeslam was. I remember watching a match that must have been an MSG match or something but it was EARLY Crush. One of his first matches with demolition and I remember it was the worst thing Id ever seen. He was super overweight and just sloppy as hell in the ring. Terrible. NOt surprised to see someone noticed similar things. He was never a good wrestler.

Watching Nitro now. I am going a little out of order. I watched Raw and Nitro from the night after the rumble and it was a ton of fun especially because that Nitro was so darn awesome.

I like the two segments where Giant has tried to get at Hogan. The second one really made me laugh because it is like Giant is just hanging out and chosing opportune times to bust through the door and try to get at Hogan. Haha the second attempt was virtually no better than the first. Also love imagining all these guys just smoking stogies in the back, without at TV haha. Not even watching Nitro.

Harlem Heat were fucking awesome. One of the coolest tag teams ever and the Heatseeker was a great special move. I am also surprised at how over Hacksaw was in both of these episodes I've watched. It just goes to show how smart the WCW crowd was. They are smart enough to cheer for the coolest thing wrestling has seen in years with the NWO, and still wrestling savy enough to cheer Hacksaw Jim Duggan as he represents the old school. The WCW card was SOOOO deep here.

PAGE Diamond Cutter on Scott Hall was spectacular. Loved how Nash and Hall were wearing those ugly ass NWO sweatshirts. One was a hoody, one was not haha. WCW was probably making a killing selling these shirts in 97 and 98. DDP already had the crowd in his pocket before he put the shirt on. Then after the diamond cutter, the crowd exploded. DDP going through the crowd is just icing on the cake. Also love Dibiase so any time he is on screen it is enjoyable for me. Way too much good stuff going on during these Nitro's to not enjoy. It is almost as though WCW in 1997 was a mixture of WWF and WCW. Hogan, Duggan, Macho, Dibiase, Virgil, Nash, Hall. The list goes on of WWF guys converted to WCW. Combine all the former WWF guys with the brilliant wrestlers WCW already had and WOW. This is what you get. Possibly the best weekly wrestling on TV ever.
