WWF Steroid Scandal

A lot of people want to blame Hogan for the steroid scandal but I don't think you know what happened. This wasn't about wrestlings selling roids it was about Vince McMahon obtaining steroids for his Wrestlers.

Back in the early 90's news sources began to allege that Dr. George Zahorian III, a doctor for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, had been selling steroids illegally to wrestlers in general and Hogan, Moondog Rex, Warrior, Bulldog in particular. Hogan appeared on an episode of The Arsenio Hall Show to deny the allegations. Due to intense public scrutiny, Hogan took a leave of absence from the company which is why he faced Sid and not Flair at WM8.

In 1994, Hogan, having received immunity from prosecution, testified in the trial of Vince McMahon relating to shipments of steroids received from Dr. Zahorian by both parties. Under oath, Hogan admitted that he had used anabolic steroids since 1976 to gain size and weight, but that Vince McMahon had neither sold him the drugs, nor ordered him to take them. The evidence given by Hogan proved extremely costly to the government's case against McMahon. Due to this and jurisdictional issues, McMahon was found not guilty.

People lie under oath all the time... It's kind of why you need evidence.

not with immunity, its pointless why would Hogan risk going to jail for perjury when he was in the clear?

Hogan had no reason to lie. He admitted to taking roids and said Vince never sold or supplied him roids.

When I get home, I'll post Meltzer's recap of the trial.

And IIRC, it was the testimony of Nailz that was detrimential to the government's case against McMahon.

You should read "Sex, Drugs and Headlocks". It's a book about Vince and it has A LOT of stuff about the trail.

Seriously, it's really interesting.

I remember that. I think he went all batshit crazy on the stand or something like that. Up until he testified, Vince was going to jail.

I don't place 100% of the blame Hogan for the steroid scandal, but he was a huge part of it. Nearly every wrestler was on roids back in the 80's - early 90's so they're all to blame.
Hogan being the face of the company however has to take a large chunk of the blame.

From what I read, Kerry Von Erich "allegedly" was the blame for the initial drug raid in St. Louis in 92/93.

Hogan has also been accused by Ultimate Warrior of having some type of "Juice" that was some type of HGH or something that he would keep the wrestler's doped up on. I know warrior might not be credible, but considering he kept quiet for so many years, and finally decided to speak because he was tired of people ruining his name on documentaries, makes me think there is a chance there is some truth to what he says.

Hogan and his pouch? What do you think Hogan kept in that pouch. Vitamins?

From my understanding, Savage was the only guy to keep it real from the start.

He even buried Hogan on the old WWF radio show over Hogan's prior steroid comments.
