Re: Greatest promotion of all time?

For a run I'd go NWA/WCW from 1985-1994 as a whole I gotta go WWE since they outlasted everyone. I'm sure if we're going by matches only All Japan has an argument though I haven't watched any since 98.

NWA destroys WWF from 85-88. Just the Four Horsmen alone produced more watchable and great interviews and matches than WWF's entire roster from that time.

Re: Greatest promotion of all time?

For me, Original ECW, NJPW or NWA, although NWA is more of a governing body than a promotion, per se.

I used to really enjoy alot of SMW aswell.

WWF

I don't know if I want to mold it with WWE...I mean, it is obviously the same company, but, WWF vs WWE, they are just two different from each other, mainly because the promotion has mostly sucked fucking ass since changing to WWE. With 'entertainment' added to the title, it just fully brought on 'fake and stupid' with it.

Back in the day, people didn't go around laughing at WWF. People took it seriously. Seems funny to think about it now but that part of it really made the program really enjoyable, when you actually believed the hate between two guys, and the matches and titles meant something. Now, damn, what a fucking joke. Too much soap opera bullshit, not enough wrestling. The championship title is pathetic, how sad is that? The top prize is the gayest looking toy belt ever.

Re: Greatest promotion of all time?

I was defintely a big fan of WCCW in the mid-80s and ECW in the mid-90s. However, my all-time fave and probably the greatest promotion of all-time was the UWF/Mid-South from 1983 until early 1987. Cowboy Bill Watts gave it that realism that really made it stand out. Yes, I know wrestling is predetermined but you got the feeling that when "Dr. Death" Steve Williams faced Hacksaw Jim Duggan that they hated each other.

Lot of great names that came out of that time...Junkyard Dog, the Midnight Express, Magnum, T.A., Duggan, Ted DiBiase, the Freebirds, etc. One of my fave feuds in tag team wrestling history was the Rock n Roll Express vs. the Guerreros.

Later, in the UWF, he took guys like Big Bubba Rogers and the One Man Gang and made them legitimate champions. The Gang especially was more of a curiosity going back to his Crusher Bloomfield days in the ICW. Watts booked him as a bad-ass deserving of being UWF World champion.

Re: Greatest promotion of all time?

Well, WWE, but my favorite time periods from certain wrestling promotions are:

WCW from 1994 to 1997
ECW 1996 to the end
WWF 1994-2004
ROH 2002-2004

Re: Greatest promotion of all time?

I wish I was alive and around in America during the territory days, but I will have to just go with WWE. Picking and choosing certain years, I think they're definitely my favourite.

ECW/WCW and others all had some great years though.

I agree with the matches and interviews but despite that, the WWF was more entertaining.

Depends on what you wanted. If you wanted the gimmicks you watched WWF. If you like the "sport" of wrestling NWA just blew WWF away.
