In ECW One Night Stand 2005, they were having a Raw vs. ECW angle.
Fans in that bingo hall booed the hell out of the WWE wrestlers, except the ones who previously wrestled in ECW like Chris Jericho. Then you have Austin come out acting like he was a part of the ECW originals. I do know around that same time Austin made a short-lived comeback (i.e. stunning the entire McMahon family) but his role in the event just came out of nowhere. But I would say him having a beer with Sandman was like saying thanks.

Austin was in ECW, was friends with Heyman and the locker room, plus the Stone Cold character is hard to hate especially for a smarky crowd that were teens or kids in the 90's
