When to start watching ECW

I've been on a nostalgia trip recently watching AE ep's of Raw & Nitro & want to get into ECW as I was a fan back in the day but not as much as I was a fan of the bigger 2 companies. What would be the best year to get into it? was thinking either 95 or 96 & then going all the way to the end?

Re: When to start watching ECW

I would suggest starting in 1995. If you started in 96 you'd miss out on some of the greatest techinical bouts ever between Malenko and Eddie Guerrero.

I started at the beginning of 95. There's some stuff from 94 worth checking out, but I think Jan 1995 is a good place to start.

Re: When to start watching ECW

I would suggest going back to late '93 when it was still Eastern Championship Wrestling, if you can find them. The product wasn't really as good, guys like snukka took up camera time and you could tell they really didn't care about being there... BUT it will give you more of an idea of what they were doing storyline wise when Shane Douglas threw down the NWA title. Starting In 95 or 96 would lose a good bit of the history that really comes in to play.

Early or mid 95 is the best, once you see a guy named the rocking rebel you went to far...

Re: When to start watching ECW

Start with January 1995 when Raven debuted, as that started one of the best storylines in wrestling. At this time, Dreamer was still yet to gain his beloved babyface status in ECW and it was the early months of this feud (namely, the Beulah debut) that really got him over.

And whatever you do, make sure you can see Heatwave 1995, with Scorpio/Malenko vs. Taz/Eddie Guerrero, one of my favorite matches of all time.

Also, some brutal Sandman/Foley matches, Mysterio/Psychosis, early exposure to the Stone Cold gimmick, the controversy surrounding Sabu, the Steiner Brothers and a pretty decent tag team division.

In 1996, it gets even better.

Re: When to start watching ECW

I would start in '95, as others have suggested. But IMO, the absolute best years in ECW were '96 and '97. '98 was damn good too, especially with the RVD/Lynn matches.

Every episode of ECW Hardcore TV in 1996, and some from 1995 and loads of other goodies.

You're welcome.
