Re: Up until the end of Starrcade 97 was Sting vs Hogan/NWO the best Storyline ever?
It was great, but not sure the best of all time. Nothing comes to mind off hand as being the greatest of all time, with the exception of Lawler/Kaufman (and that was more of an angle rather than a storyline).

Mega Powers Explode
Flair v Savage "She was mine before she was yours"
Savage vs Jake the Snake is and was the definition of a great blood feud
Hart Foundation vs Stone Cold
Were all better than Old man Hogan stumbling around the ring and that's just off the top of my head.

No I'm not "fucking insane"
Those were all great feuds/storylines. Bret vs Stone Cold is one of my most favorite feuds ever as is Mega Powers explode and Flair vs Savage.
Even with those you listed I still feel Hogan vs Sting had one of the best buildup's I've seen and I feel it's certainly worthy of being up there with those other storylines.

Re: Up until the end of Starrcade 97 was Sting vs Hogan/NWO the best Storyline ever?
The best thing about the storyline was the build up, especially the months and months of Sting showing no allegiance to WCW.
But in order for it to be regarded as the best storyline, there needed to be a proper pay off and there wasn't. The most logical solution would have been for Sting to win the title and the NWO disband. The outside interference was expected, as no Hollywood Hogan match up until that point ended cleanly and was a play on the whole NWO thing.
I will say this. It was the best storyline in WCW history, barely edging out the Sting/Flair/Luger situation in 1989-1990. As for in wrestling history, I'd say my personal top 5, regardless of the lack of a pay off, as it made for amazing TV and was one of the best periods in wrestling. I just feel there needed to be an actual pay off, instead of a continuance after the biggest show of the year. Had Goldberg/Hogan been given an actual build up, it would be one of the best storylines ever and thats because it had an actual pay off.

I wonder how much money Sting made during 1997, because he wrestled only 2 matches against Hogan that year, both in December (Starrcade and Nitro).

Everyone in WCW had guaranteed contracts. Sting was making BANK.

I read in 1992 that his deal at the time (which expired in 1995) saw him making $14,000 a week in guranteed money, which is around $728,000 a year.

Re: Up until the end of Starrcade 97 was Sting vs Hogan/NWO the best Storyline ever?
I agree that it was the perfect wrestling angle. Because of Hogan's role in it there will never be a storyline with that impact again. When Crow sting debuted during nWo's birthday celebration it was like the stuff out of a comics book. It was wrestling magic. The commercials for Starrcade 97, the build-up, it was perfection.
The thing about Austin/Mcmahon was that McMahon became the ultimate heel during that angle. I can't really pinpoint the timeframe of what was the storyline. That is weakness right there. I don't remember the beginning, I don't remember the end...I remember endless number of promos, brawls, ppv commercials etc...but not the great big moments.

Most disappointing ending ever. Argubly the greatest buildup to a major match in wrestling history, only for Hogan to fuck it up.

Flame me if you want but in fact.........when Punk made McMahon say "I'm sorry " on Raw that was more of a magical moment than anything I remember from the Austin/McMahon feud..........and I'm not trying to belittle Austin/Mcmahon, I thought it was awesome, I'm just saying I don't remember the big moments. I don't remember that certain wrestling magic.
