I agree with the OP. It was the perfect storyline until the end of the match, it could be the final nail in the coffin of WWE and the perfect moment for WCW to establish themselves as the ultimate #1.

For some reason this is for me even worse than the Starrcade finish. It was a lame, controversial finish but if they did it right in the weeks after the PPV they could benefit from it like for example WWE with the Montreal Screwjob. It was not the ending everybody wanted, in fact it was terrible, but if they continued the next weeks with creative writing it would make the Starrcade match even more infamous and memorable what would lead to a final grdge match but with Sting stripped of the title they just ignored the 1 year build up
