Default Better "retirement" era

Of all the past eras in WWE, which one do people think is better off after retirement(or at least after their active wrestling careers are over). By that, I mean like financially, health wise and all that.

Cause everyone knows about guys in new generation era how some might have had financial troubles, health issues, death. Attitude era/Monday Night Wars seems like a number of people from it have health issues too(and deaths as well).

You'd have a guy like Flair,Hogan with their financial stuff.Guys like Macho Man,Test,Bossman among others who died. Many guys like Scott Hall,Hardys among others with health related issues and stuff like that.

Kind of tough right there.

Golden Era has a lot of guys currently on hard times right now, as well as numerous deaths. New Generation Era didn't see a lot of money coming in and all retirements from the Attitude Era have been against their own will, although they were likely better off financially than wrestlers from any other era, as well as drug use not being as widespread as it was in the previous 2 eras.

So, I'd say Attitude Era.

I think the worst retirement era has to be the guys in Hogans era. Prior to Hogans era only the ME guys made a lot of money and a fair amount of wrestlers stayed local and had other jobs. When the WWE went National and guys started touring the world salaries increased and along with it the spending.

Guys were probably making in the low 6 figures and they expected this trend to continue for years to come. Never having a real job most of these guys couldn't transition to the real world and not being a semi celebrity after their wrestling careers were over.

People say the end of the attitude era was bad, but I personally LOVED 2001-2003

yeah, hard to say. When you hear stories like Tony Atlas being the world champion while also living on the streets. Mick Foley talks about Bologna and hand sandwiches being a staple of his diet while he was working for wcw and ecw... But now you have a very small indy world and no territories to speak of. Two Main companies that are no longer really competing at least at the moment, meaning they aren't going to be paying incredibly competitive wages especially to the lower card guys. You also have a system that churns through guys quicker than a garbage disposal through a plastic spoon. From the stories I've heard from the guys that were there, I'd have to say the era just before the territories really died (80's) was probably the worst for those going into retirement as well as setting guys up for retirement in the future. Just so many horror stories about scrimping and saving to get by.

* edit, I read wrong.. the better era to retire in.. I'd say those that started in the early 90's and got big during the attitude era probably ended up best off. The guys that were younger and came up during the attitude era are for the most part un-heard from now. There are few exceptions for the number of them there were.

The best era's are probably the guys who are just now retiring or the guys pre-WWF/Hogan who lived middle class lives and wrestled on the weekends.

It doesn't exist yet because Edge is the only one in it, but when they come around, it'll be his generation for sure.

Territory Years
Pros - Less Days Worked, Travel is kept. to a minimum, most wrestlers have real jobs
Cons - Pay checks werent that great

Wrestling Goes National
Pros - $$$
Cons - No Days Off, leads to injuries and drug Problems

End of WCW
Pros - More Awareness in regards to drug abuse, Reduced Travel for Wrestlers in TNA, Better View of Life After Wrestling
Cons - Less jobs, Money isn't as good as it was.

Imagine all the retirements of the PG era. Currently Scott Hall and Jake The Snake are in the news for their rehab and battles as well as deaths over the years such as Bulldog, Test, Crash Holly etc.....

Worst I can imagine happening to the current roster is a cut on the knee compared. Not a bad thing though, wrestling had to clean its image a little, even though in my opinion it has taken the edge out of it.

The current era will be best for retirement, considering the wellness policy and overall safeness of wrestling today.

Also, the party scene is pretty much non existent. Windham said a few guys might go out for drinks but for the most part, they pass time with technology.

Financially, guys from this era will be taken care of in retirement due to royalties and potential lucrative ventures outside of wrestling.
