Fmr.WWE-writer says Shane "wrote" all Royal Rumbles the past 15 years

This is just an unbelievable story to me.

If you listen to the PWTorch january 25 podcast the two former WWE-writers, Andrew Goldstein and Court Bauer, tell story of how all the Royal Rumbles have been written/planned these past 10-15 years.

So here is the scoop.

Every year Shane Mcmahon and two writers from the creative team would get a hotel room in Stanford, order tons and tons of beer and sleazy food, lock themselves up in their hotel room over a weekend and just "hammer" out the Royal Rumble in detail.

What are your feelings on this? It seems so bizarre to me.

I've seen some great rumbles like 2005 that felt just like something a bunch of guys drinking beer would come up with.

But I've also seen crap like 2011 and 2012. It's not something three rugged men would would write while drinking booze for 2 days straight.

Apparently 2011 and 2012 they had smoked something along with the beers.

Re: Fmr.WWE-writer says Shane "wrote" all Royal Rumbles the past 15 years

Well if that's how they've done it, it has had varying results.

Last 15 Rumbles:

2013 = Good, but predictable as all hell.

2012 = Dull & anticlimactic.

2011 = Possibly the worst Rumble ever.

2010 = Solid enough.

2009 = Pretty good.

2008 = This one was all about the Cena return, so that depends on how you feel about him.

2007 = Awesome

2006 = Pretty good.

2005 = Damn good.

2004 = Awesome.

2003 = Good, but predictable.

2002 = Same as 03.

2001 = One of the best

2000 = Good and fun.

1999 = Austin/McMahon stuff was good, but everything else was rushed & kind of messy.

Exactly. I don't understand why one year it's a rugged man's wrestling show and another year it's the most random, thoughtless piece of crap.

Only Rumble I didn't really enjoy at in the last 15 years or so would be 2012's. I actually really like the 2011 one.

I thought Pat Patterson was in charge of booking the Rumble?

Not surprising at all to me. Shane was always ahead of everyone backstage in real world perspective out of the wrestling bubble. He knew what's hot and was considered "cool" in every demo. Vince can only hope that this guy comes back to take his spot when the time is right because no one is more fitting or close to him as a reasonable businessman along with the wrestling knowledge from over 40 years of living the business every day. He covers every aspect.
