Ultimate Warrior

Just watched parts of the WWE vid based on the Ultimate Warrior, slating him and ripping into him for being an egotistical freak obsessed with himself even changing his name to Warrior.

How bad was he? Anyone share some stories they've read/heard why people hated him and your opinion?

He's different, people are always afraid of what's different.

He was no more an asshole than Hogan or HBK, but of course he never kissed ass so he gets ripped. Besides, he got a check for that DVD, so I am betting he's laughing at them.

The worst Warrior story I've read was that there was a make-a-wish kid who was literally at death's door - lay on a trolly waiting to meet his favourite person in the World - The Ultimate Warrior. Kid was wearing the arm tassles and everything.

People kept bugging him that he had to go out and meet this kid and his responses were something along the lines of fuck off, I need to prepare for my match. THEN he apparently insisted that they move the kid elsewhere so he wouldn't interfere with him on his way to the ring.

This was a story told in Bret Hart's autobiography (if I got any part of it mixed up I apologise, read it a long time ago, but the basis of it is correct at least) - and I have no doubt that it's at least based in truth. I'm not gonna deny that Bret could have souped the story up to sound worse than it was but at the very base of it I'm sure Warrior at least ignored and had no apathy for a dying kid who adored him.

So yeah, fuck Warrior. Horrible human being imo.

It's more than him being an asshole. He is a strange individual. From his promos to his changing his legal name to the "Warrior." He's out there, to be kind about it.

And say what you want about "assholes", but I don't think I remember any other wrestler holding Vince up for a couple hundred thousands of dollars just minutes before the main event of SummerSlam. Not Hogan, or anyone else.

Perhaps. But I have heard of people screwing other wrestlers on live tv or using deceased wrestlers or their drug addictions as a storyline. So yeah, hard to take guys like Vince serious when they put down Warrior and yet have plenty of blood on their hands as well.

I've read a funny story that I don't know if I remember correctly or even where I've heard it, but here goes;

Warrior was working the house shows with Andre, and at the time The Giant had a spot that he liked to do. We've all seen it, he would get hit a few times and fall backwards and become tangled up with his arms tied with the ring ropes so he couldn't escape and the crowd would pop. The first few nights of working together, for whatever reason Warrior wouldn't let Andre do this spot even though it was set up to do, so after a week or so working together the time in the match for the spot came and instead of taking the usual nonsense, Andre just stuck his huge fist out and let Warrior run full force into it, almost knocking himself out. The next night, Warrior was happy to let Andre do the spot and apparently when Andre was tied up in the ropes, he looked across at Heenan and mouthed "He's learning."

Always made me laugh that. I think it's a Heenan story I've heard so I maybe a bit fuzzy, but the jist is correct.

I think Warrior gets a bad rep for the things he's done which are at the most on the level of what some of the wrestlers looked upon most fondly have gotten away with. I think he was just a poor worker in the right place, right gimmick, right time and got too big for his boots.

Some of his comments after his career ended though are a bit odd.

I do remember though, a few years ago, I always read he took himself way too seriously and was a real pain in the arse and then I saw a video of RVD doing an impression the Ultimate Warrior rambling promo character and thought, Ha Ha making fun of him, and then the real guy walks upto RVD and acts annoyed and then they both crack up and Warrior walks away laughing. Simple video but made me see him in a somewhat different light.

Re: Ultimate Warrior

WWE propaganda was the dvd. It was said that Warrior didn't want to work with the DVD and Vince told him he would see how it would turn out without him.

Story is believable as the Bret Hart DVD was going to be called "Screwed: The Bret Hart Story" until Bret agreed to come back and do the Hall of Fame.

So how would the dvd look if Warrior agreed? Nothing like what actually got released no doubt.

He was so horrible, yet he was once the legit heir apparent to Hulk Hogan when Hogan was in his PRIME.

Warrior was known to be a loner and had few friends [Think Kerry von Erich was listed as one of his few]. People already mentioned a few of the stories I've heard about him but I've also heard that Rick Rude knocked him senseless. Here's a snippet I found.

During the Ultimate Warrior/Rick Rude program, Rude came back after the match and asked Warrior to "lighten up" a bit. Warrior got right in Rude's face and said, "I don't have to, because I'm the Warrior." Rude knocked him silly with one punch and walked away.
