How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
In the early 1990s, this was a big money-match waiting to happen.
Why didn't they pull the trigger? They had opportunities, such as Wrestlemania 9 or King of the Ring 1993. Bret was the young, up and coming star; Hogan was an established celebrity. It's simple:
Shame we never got this. |
Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
we did. wcw gave it away on free tv once
it sucked anyways the key reason is because hogan is a dick and didnt want to put over bret |
Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
It was supposed to happen at Summerslam. They already took pictures of Bret and Hogan staring at each other with the title in the middle. Like this one:

Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
Hogan didn't want to put him over. Although selfish, I kind of get where he was coming from.
When he left the WWF he was still seen as the man. He hadn't lost to 'Taker, Sid or Yokozuna cleanly. He hadn't wrestled new number one guy Bret Hart. He went to WCW still considered the biggest name in wrestling. He got paid millions and extended the long running Hulkamania tour by another two years. He had that momementum when he turned heel, as extended his grip on wrestling (and Turner's cash) by another 3 years. |
Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
It was going to happen at Fall Brawl 1999.
But Randy Savage missed some house shows and Bret replaced him in tag matches- And that screwed the plans. |
Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
I know they fought at WCW. I was thinking more of early-90s WWE. Before Bret became a star, this was a perfect match to elevate him.

Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
Bret was a bitter and noisy young man who then complained and whined a lot about people not putting him over and wouldn't let him get past the mid card, Hogan was the Superstar Bret was barely even a Jabroni who was at the right place at the right time. Hogan knowing Bret who had been with the company together since WM2 era would know of Bret's young bitter and whiny nature and how he puts himself over everyone, so Hogan did the locker room a favor and screwed Bret in WM9 therefore putting Bret in his place with the good intention of teaching him a lesson (for Bret's own good) and what does Bret do??
He whines (of course) and stated Hogan screwed him (even though given the circumstances it was justifiable) what an ingrate. Bret should have manned up and not complain like HHH manned up and owned up to his part in the Garden incident then maybe he'd have the maturity for Hogan to reconsider and be deserving of a match with the Hulkster. |
Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
how exactly did hogan do the right thing for bret's own good?
it killed his momentum (and the WWF's), hogan went out as a selfish bastard, nobody benefitted except for yokozuna and Hogan and his damned pride |
Re: How come we never saw Hogan vs Bret Hart?
There are 2 reasons here, the main one being that Hogan didn't want to lose his spot. He already put over Warrior big time and that back-fired on everyone (apart from Warrior who made millions from it.) Then when it came to putting Bret over, Hogan just didn't want to do it and didn't think Bret was worth it.
There was an interesting article he did in early 1993 when he was a face still connected to the WWF where he actually said that Bret was nowhere near as good as him and couldn't lace his boots and that he wasn't a worthy champion...not the kind of thing you want a top face saying about your face champion. |

We could have gotten Bret Hart vs Hulk Hogan in a classic. Instead, we the Yokozuna vs Bret + Yokozuna vs Hogan nonsense. |
