I understand that because I feel Bret always got a raw deal in WWE. Like I was saying earlier, it seems WWE did everything they could to prevent giving Bret the title and it wasn't until the steroid scandal really took off that he got the belt.

And like you said, Bret was guilty of the same behavior in 1997 but again, that stemmed from him being jerked around. Vince goes back on the original deal he offers Bret, tells him to negotiate with WCW. But when Bret did, Vince said he could live up to the contract. Just so much happened with that situation that makes me question who was really in the wrong.

And that's all that is, are claims, as there is no proof that Bret/Hogan was ever going to happen, especially since Luger popped up into the picture and main evented. My question is how were Bret/Hogan going to main event Summerslam, when neither was the champion and Hogan was a lock to main event Summerslam, all the way until the week after KOTR? The original plan, even before Wrestlemania, was always for Hogan to drop the belt at KOTR and regain it at Summerslam, as that was the main reason he even came back.

The nWo was a way for Hogan to absorb the guys he was afraid would take his spot: Savage, Bret... Horace.

What does that have to do with why we never saw Hogan vs. Bret?

They never released those photos but they did release this for their offical WWF magazine July 1993 edition (would have been in stores in June):

Good thing McMahon actually followed through with that plan for SummerSlam.

Seriously though, it kind of irked me a little that Hogan, Warrior, or Savage didn't get the opportunity or Vince wouldn't book them to put over Bret or whoever was supposed to be the face of the New Generation Era coming off the Rock & Wrestling period. It was just like they left and combine that with the bad press from the steroid scandal it was really tough time to get the product over more.

I never understood what happened with Savage

he was there, and I know he was still a huge star, but for some reason he was relegated to sitting at commentary

It made zero sense. Why not have him feud with Bret? He clearly still wanted to go and he was always a pro

Everything about Bret's reign is bizarre. He won the title on a house show for God's sake. Why didnt he just do it at Survivor Series?

It always bothered me that Vince didn't have Savage wrestling all that much towards the end of Randy's WWF run. I think it was nothing more than in that time period (late '94-95), Vince was just so focused on moving the product from the guys in the 80s to the "New Generation" of guys. I'm not saying Vince should have had Savage be the focus of the company in that time period. But geez, he certainly had more to offer than doing commentary. If anything, Vince missed out on an opportunity to have Savage put the younger guys like Bret, HBK, etc. over before his contract expired. I think that was a mistake on Vince's part.

Well Bret didnt want to put HBK over in Montreal on his way out the door, so Bret is just as bad as Hogan, he didnt do what was best for the company.

I think Vince would have liked to have booked Bret Hart vs. Hulk Hogan @ SummerSlam 1993, with or without the title at stake. However, they couldn't have Hogan go over 'The Hitman' because Bret was the workhorse who worked 200 matches per year; Hogan had been cutting back his schedule since 1990. Not to mention the Bollea/McMahon relationship was heading for rocky times, for instance, in 4 months Vince would be indicted and Hogan would be naturally called to the trial.

It was obvious Hogan would not lose clean to Bret. The only person he had cleanly put over in a decade was Warrior. Even then he stood side by side with him to end that show, and Hogan knew - the business man he is - that Warrior wouldn't last, not mention he needed a replacement while he filmed Suburban Commando. Hogan had nothing to gain from putting over a guy who was 5'11 and a midcarder for 6 years. Hence, Lawler/Hart was the backup.

Also, I agree that Vince did not see Hart as his company carrier. It was damage control during the steroid crisis of 1991-1992, in addition to Sid Justice, Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior leaving the company. Once Hogan decided to leave, his last dates being a previously advertised European tour, he turned former CFL player and bodybuilder Lex Luger into babyface.
