The super heel booking of Triple H (1999 - 2000)

Here's a checklist of what they did to get 'The Game' over in the late 90's:
  • Turned on mega popular DX
  • Trapped The Rock in a casket and smashed the shit out of it with a sledgehammer
  • Attacked Mick Foley's knee's with a sledgehammer, putting him out of action
  • Brutally attacked Austin's knees at Summerslam, putting him out of action
  • Had Shawn Michaels turn heel to help him
  • Had British Bulldog turn heel to help him
  • Threaten and feud with the McMahon family
  • Survived being trapped in an ambulance and smashed by a truck
  • Survived being trapped in a room with a rattlesnake
  • DX reformed under him, basically becoming his bitches
  • Marry the boss's daughter in Vegas
  • Had Stephanie turn heel on her own father for him
  • Basically became in control of the company
  • Retired Mick Foley
  • First bad guy to walk out of Wrestlemania as champion
  • Revealed he masterminded the hit and run attack on Stone Cold
  • Dropped 50 feet from the air, only to return six weeks later

I'm not sure any heel in the history of the business has been booked THAT strongly...

He was born to be a heel.

His 2002 return was a bit slow but he picked up right where he left off with the Evolution run.

Late '99 to late 2000 pretty much belonged to that guy. Great character development and some awesome matches in that time period, too.

I'm a Brock Lesnar Guy.

Agree with everything being said here. HHH was the man during that period OP mentioned.

Would you guys say HHH is the best heel of all time? It's a big title but he's up there. Obviously Hogan's run during the nWo was great, plus I guess you could include Vince if we're counting 'non' wrestlers as well. Thoughts?

Re: The super heel booking of Triple H (1999 - 2000)

The best part about his supreme push to heel greatness is how fucking intense he was. He was just such a heartless son of a bitch, and he was full of intensity when beating the hell of out people. It made you really believe that he was that much of an asshole, and you wanted to hate him for it. And the things he did, as OP mentioned, were just so awful. Seriously, what an asshole he was, and it was so great to watch.

Today, we get heels that are just casual jerks to people. Watch the Test - Stephanie wedding and you'll see the greatest heel of the past 15 years absolutely killing it.

That has got to be Kane.

Re: The super heel booking of Triple H (1999 - 2000)

In 2000 he was by far the best wrestler in North America he's feud with Mick Foley gave us both the best matches and feud of the year he was on top of his game and he was the main reason to tune into Raw every week. For me he's the greatest heel of the last 15 years by a long long way, his year in 2000 and his Evolution run he was everything a heel should be, he played the bad ass heel who even though he sometimes cheated you believed that if he had to win clean you knew he could do it and sometimes he did.

The booking of heels was so much better back then the pussy heels we get now like Miz who you know couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

Re: The super heel booking of Triple H (1999 - 2000)

He was awesome, but he wasn't THE MAN, that position belongs to Rock and Austin. Cornette puts it quite well (and I barely ever agree with Jim Cornette!) by stating that Triple H was an awesome old school legit hard guy worker, but he was the guy who worked with the guys who drew money, by himself without a decent opponent he's tended to suck. The Rock on the other hand could make a workable fued out of the likes of Rikishi and Billy Gunn
