I dont know shit about the guy, besides he wore one of the most ridiculous outfits ever. I hear all my favorite wrestlers talk about how they wanted to be like him, how he drew so much heat, how no heel will ever be able to match his mic skills. That sounds like a wrestler I need to know and see more of. I have never seen one match from the guy, and from promos I dont know where to start. Any feuds you guys can recommend? The only stuff I have seen is when WWE brings him back for those Piper Pits. Anyone got good shit to share?

Re: Can somebody sell me on Roddy Pipers greatness?
He is considered by many to be the greatest ever talker/ worker of the mic.
He was the originator of a talk show, ie Piper's Pit. Since then we've seen The Highlight Reel, Cutting Edge, The Peep Show, MizTV etc. Piper was the original.
He was one of the main reasons, along with Hulk Hogan for the success of the WWF, and was a major player in the launching of Wrestlemania. His feud with Hogan, garnered huge mainstream attention, since they had War to Settle the Score on MTV. He then had a boxing match with Mr T at WM 2, which again gave the WWF huge mainstream attention.
Some of his other feuds, involved the Guerrero family, earlier in his career where he soon became the most hated villain up in California.
Honestly, I could go on forever, if you're really interested, just google him and youtube him, or buy the Roddy Piper Born to Controversy DVD, I have it and it's amazing.
Re: Can somebody sell me on Roddy Piper's greatness?
Piper is a guy who wasn't the most technically sound guy or had the most extensive move set.
What he brought to the table was passion and character. When he got on the mic, he made you want to see him. When he got in the ring, he went in there like a bat out of hell and made you believe he wanted to beat the shit out of someone.
Living proof that it isn't about what you can do, but how you use what you can do.

Re: Can somebody sell me on Roddy Piper's greatness?
Roddy Piper was Attitude Era in the 80s. He probably had the single best match of his life at Wrestlemania VIII vs Bret Hart but he's beyond legendary.
His verbal skills alone are iconic, he's #1 or #2 promo guy in history....Ric Flair is only guy on par. One of the greatest heel acts of all time, main evented Wrestlemania and Co-Main Evented at Wrestlemania 2.
