Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
This isn't Russo WCW, but there was an episode of Nitro in the summer of 99 when Hogan had just gone back to the red/yellow and regained the belt. He faced Sid and Hogan won by pinning Rick Steiner, who had interfered and was NOT in the match. Kinda like the finish to the main event of Uncensored 1995. Its too bad that was before Russo, it would have fit in perfectly.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
:lmao I think that might be the worst ladder match ever. Yet still so awesome. Watching SID prepare himself for the Steiner Bulldog made me lol. As did Goldberg's missed kick to Rick.

Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
Speaking of mindfucks, it was rumored many people (including Sable) were behind the mystery Hummer angle in the summer of '99, only for them to kill off the angle along with the West Texas ******** vs. No Limit Soldiers.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
Killing off that angle might have biggest mindfuck angle of the entire year. It made people wonder who the hell was behind it only for it to die and see things like Hogan go back to Red & Yellow, Sting go heel for one month, and The Demon debut after a FAKE KISS concert.

:lol wasn't Nash presumably killed off, (along with the angle, of course)? Then a couple of months later he bragged about how he worked everyone on booking his own retirement commentating on Thunder.
Edit: People were actually rooting for Sting over Hogan, :lmao. No one really gave two shits about face Hogan.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
WCW later brought the limo back and it ran over Hogan. Eric Bishoff was behind it, I thought that he said he was behind it the year before too, could be wrong.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
Don't know. All I know is Bischoff ran down Hogan on the New Blood Nitro and that was that. Angle was up in the hell and randomly brought back just for that.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
Do you guys remember HOW Hogan went back to the red and yellow motif? Oh my god. Lets say it involves Nick Hogan and a cheesy component to going towards "turning a new leaf."

For the shit that came about in 1999 and 2000, Jim Herd can not go without criticism. His reign of terror certainly damaged the company in 1990 - 1991, after a superb 1989:
Chamber of Horrors
Robocop
The noriously awful Oz
Ron Simmon's boring title reign
WWF influenced one dimensional gimmicks (P.N. News. Big Josh, Black Blood, Johnny B Badd, Firebreaker Chip, Arachnman)
Brian Pillman becoming the Yellow Dog
The confusion over the name of the company, show and introduction of a new world title
Breaking up the Rock N Roll Express
The Black Scorpion debackle happened on his watch
Crap wrestlers receiving pushing which went nowhere - El Gigante, Van Hammer, One Man Gang, Bill Kazmaier, Motor City Madman
Road Warriors, Jim Cornette and Ric Flair left the company because of him.

The Young Pistols (Tracy Smothers and Steve Armstrong)
The other half of the Patriots, Todd Champion (to go along with Firebreaker Chip)
The York Foundation, where instead of Terry Taylor we had Terrance Taylor, Richard Morton instead of Ricky Morton, and Alexandra York with her cinder block sized computer that could figure out every single weakness of an opponent.
This is all from ONE PPV, Halloween Havoc 1991. This show must be watched, its the epitome of 1991 WCW badness.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
Am I crazy of are The Creatures using a theme song that would become known with a luchadore in the latter 90's WCW?
Don't get me started on Morton vs Pillman though. Had potential to be quite the Light Heavyweight Championship match. Instead Morton sucks it up so bad that it's nearly unbearable.

I have rewatched it several times and wondered that, did Heenan kinda give it away? But the crowd didn't hear him, and I don't think most people watching paid much attention to it really.
After all, Heenan is the world's biggest Hogan hater.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
I don't think it revealed much at that time. Anyone who paid attention to Bobby probably thought it was just Brain being Brain. Always hating Hogan while on commentary and all that jazz.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
Heenans comment was stupid of course but it didn't ruin it. At worst it gave it away but Hogans face and the fact that there were two Outsiders against three WCW guys and they still had to bring out their third guy which most likely would also be a "New York" guy all gave it away.
With that said it was still shocking as hell. It's like they wanted us to think it's Hogan but we wouldn't want to accept that it moght be Hogan.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
It was hard to ruin the Hogan heel turn to be honest. Back in July '96 there was not really an IWC and the only people that knew what was happening backstage were the subscribers to W.O.N. Obviously most realised it was fake, but for 99% of viewers kayfabe was alive and the WWF/WCW audience consisted of families. Meltzer reported everybody from King Mable to Lex Luger as the third Outsider, but not Hogan.
Genuinely impossible to believe Hulkamania would go heel until it actually happened, even then was difficult to grasp.
Another important note: Not many people actually saw it happen live. WCW PPVs weren't shown outside of America and the PPV was bought by approx. 175,000 households.

Very true. I was lucky to be one of the 175,000 people who actually got to see it live (on PPV). At the time, we had the "black box" and got all the PPVs for free. It was awesome. I was 13 in 1996, so I was right in the age range of being super obsessed with wrestling. I'll never forget right after Hogan leg-dropped Savage, looking at my best friend who was sitting across the room and both of us had the eyes wide open look on our faces. No one really saw that heel turn coming. Not even when Hogan was walking down the aisle. And speaking for myself, I didn't take Heenan's "Whose side is he on?" comment seriously at all. I thought he was just hating on Hogan like he always did.
EDIT- Actually, maybe there was slightly more than 175,000 people watching on PPV. That number doesn't take into account those of us who had the black box
Haha, nah, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I'm 29 and still love it. I might not love the current product, but I still watch it. And I still watch my DVDs/Blu Rays and Classics on Demand all the time. Love the wrasslin'
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
I thought I was gonna have to bust out the EL DANDY mention here. Appears not. EL DANDY.
Best thing to do is get super high and watch all of the lucha trios and atomicos matches within WCW. You'll see them fly around and all that good shit. You'll be blown away x100. For example this is one I watched when I did it:
The part when El Dandy splats on the outside was the funniest moment of my life. EL DANDY.
Re: WCW Discussion Thread because people get asshurt about JUST RUSSO
I can't think of El Dandy without thinking about this promo:
Who are you to doubt El Dandy?
