On a legit note, I wonder if the title of that event was meant to be the night when The Magnificent Seven would get the ultimate backlash. All of the top stars Steiner took out would return to set up a major shift in the company's momentum.
I've heard it was rumored to be centered mainly around DDP. Hence the title, but that could have just been speculation.

Unless Page was only going to be out for a month then it makes sense. He was the most recent guy to be taken out - at Greed - so if he returned that quickly I'd be a bit surprised.

I also tend to wonder if Booker was originally going to be the guy to unseat Steiner or they chose Booker to win at the end as a form of a "thank you" & decided to not try and bring back Goldberg, Nash, or Page. (which I happened to utter in a different ramble yesterday. oh well.)

I'm not entirely too sure how bringing back Goldberg would be worth anything. His momentum was already derailed (along with the heel turn at GAB 2000) by the time they booked him to have a SECOND undefeated streak going on until he lost to Luger(I believe?).

He was plenty over still. They had that going for him. He survived the first few debacles. He was lucky enough to be so established early on, it seemed no poor decision would make the fans sour on him.

Not much of a difference. 1998 would probably be the best bet for Nitro year that was the strongest all around.
Thanks repped both posts

I just posted this in another thread but isn't funny in it the dying days WCW only went below 2.0 ratings once while TNA that's in a good period atm can't get above 1.5 (I'm a TNA fan btw not trying to diss them)

Different eras is the reason for it. It's common knowledge for wrestling programs & TV shows alike to pull stronger numbers back then compared to modern day. With the invention DVRs or watching online. Not to mention wrestling doesn't quite have the pull it once did around that time.

Speaking of the Mag 7, I remember a few years ago Luger said he was gonna be the one to upset Steiner and take the title off of him. I have no idea how that wouldve worked. Luger wasnt that hot towards the end and was tagging with BUff. If anything, Buff on a shocker wouldve made more sense: been there forever, still cheered, always Steiners bitch...

Idk if any of you remember this but Shane Douglas kept coming around saying he had dirt on some people, mainly Rick Steiner. I wonder what it was?

I won't believe a word of Luger's tripe.

As for the other topic's conclusion? Whew. I have zero idea. Could have been anything. It's a vague response to a vague scenario.

Tbh, I much rather see Buff feud with Steiner than Luger.

As would I. Luger was well done by that point. Buff could have possibly given us something vs Steiner. WCW missed the boat with Bagwell. He was a good babyface, imo.
