This is a must if you were in the chatbox tonight. Sticky plz.

Discuss all of the goodness of World Championship Wrestling that came from the moment Vince Russo came in from latter 1999, 2000, and the final months of 2001.

Seems as fitting as a place to start.

I never concern myself with "buyrates" or "ratings" & that junk, but boy oh boy whichever promotion would have been able to put that match on would have made the biggest killing possible. Hyperbole, yet I'm more than certain any figures behind the success a match like that could bring would make the promoter's mouth water. The definition of a big money match, right there.

At least WCW made some significant cash with a classic like Hogan & Rodman vs DDP & Malone. 8*D

vs Flair from World War 3 '97 is awesome and is probably the most mainstream WCW match I hear nobody ever discussing. Hennig vs Flair, DDP, & Eaton all on Saturday Night were good too. Eaton match is really short, but they made it work. If only that got five minutes.

I was on a WCW kick about a month ago. Only I didn't watch matches anybody else in the world would ever want to see. Nope. It was all Scott Norton, Mongo, Ice Train, The Gambler(!), Maxx Payne, etc. I'm weird like that. The best part? I had a blast doing it.

The one semi-famous match I did watch during that stretch was War Games 96. It's no 92 or 87, but I enjoyed it.

One day I really do need to go back and watch 96-01 (or at least as much as I can tolerate) because I quit WCW for good in August 96 and have mostly just watched "the classics" from that 5 year span.

Towards the end of '98 and until it was too late, the WCW undercard and midcard sucked. Zero story lines. The NWO would come out every low card, mid card match, throw the other wrestlers out of the ring with no trouble at all, then throw a promo. This was really when NWO just became unbearable. Almost all the midcard talent jumped ship, and there wasn't much replacing them until WCW completely revamped it's roster with under 30 guys in mid-late 2000.

It's interesting watching 2001 WCW. While creative was still bad, the talent was definitely there. Always makes you wonder if WCW could have survived by cutting off all the expensive talent save for a couple, going to smaller venues, and saving money here and there. Probably not, but it's always fun to think about.

Currently watching 1995-1997 WCW. Slamboree 96, Giant vs. Sting.

All I have to say is I forgot how impressive Big Show used to be in the ring... played the overpowering dude well his whole career, but back then he had some pep in his step and really had a unique moveset. His dropkick is legendary!

The Giant ruled in 1996. He was one of my favorite wrestlers that year.

I watched Konnan vs. Psicosis from CotC January 96 earlier today. It's my favorite Konnan match. Not like that's saying much, but I really wish he continued to wrestle this style instead of relying on his ultra-annoying "bowdy bowdy hooty hoo" gangsta gimmick to get over.

It's definitely weird that Giant went into WCW, got the biggest push out of anyone, instantly became a household name, had huge reactions, then two years later gets thrown in the midcard... backstage bullshit as usual. He definitely could have been a solid uppercard wrestler outside of the NWO storyline.

Dude... it's Scott Steiner. The man so awfully bad that he is entertaining, the stereotypical wrestler that non-wrestling fans think of to make fun of wrestling, the man crafted from the steroid gods. He DGAF.

I liked Norton a lot. I actually became a fan of his during his 'blink and you miss it' run in 1993. He nearly decapitated some jobber with a clothesline and I was like "Whoa! That Flash Norton guy is awesome! He's going to give Sting a run for his money!" Then he poofed.

But I always remembered him, so I might have been the only person in the US who was excited when he came back in 1995. He remained one of my favorites until I quit watching in August, 1996. I haven't seen a ton of his stuff, and tbh, I was always afraid I'd turn out to be like the anti-Hayley in that I was a Norton fan back in the day but think he sucks now. Anyway, he came off as a not-to-trifled-with badass. Like he was some sort of brick wall on the move. I expected him to be a much bigger star than he was.

I was nerdy enough to write a letter to WWF Magazine in 96-97 giving my detailed plans for how they could beat WCW :lol One of my better ideas was to bring in Scott Norton. Norton/Bradshaw was my dream tag team at one time :lol

My favorite Norton matches were the Ice Train series (I remember them being good hossfests, anyway) and Fire & Ice vs. Steiners.

This might sound dumb, but O'Haire would have made an excellent low-card wrestler in the long run... You know how there's low card wrestlers who aren't remembered and just filler, then low card wrestlers that are remembered and likable, like Scotty 2 Hotty, Spike Dudley, etc.? He had the look, and was great in the ring, especially for his size, but besides that... meh.

I think when he went over to WWE, kinda just proved my point. He got good reactions when he wrestled, but cutting a promo or whenever he was on the mic, the crowd was asleep. Plus WWE kind of made him water down his wrestling with less flying moves which he was known for in WCW.

I did like WCW's youth movement towards the end. They really needed to do that in 1998-1999. Unfortunately it was too little, too late.

Agree with you on Kronik. They definitely had a domineering presence and you had the combination of Clarke's in-ring ability and Adams' (RIP) brute strength, plus the "breaking necks and cashing cheques" line that I found mildly amusing. I loved their walk-on music as well

The sad thing is they're remembered for THAT match in 2001 but in WCW they were so good in their roles
