Plenty of nail on head hitting action already here. I'll add just one more thing. Less Dog Kennel of Hell matches.

I never really liked the 'shoot' stuff they did with Shamrock, Severn, Blackman, Owen, Brawl For All, etc. Also could have done without Nicole Bass.

Re: What Could Have Made The Attitude Era Even Better?

I think the company could have kept the blurred lines of reality/kayfabe as good as it did in 1997 and until Survivor Series 98. I think the "action adventure" (Get It Campaign) stuff in 1999 killed some of the grassroots popularity the company garnered in 97 and 98.

The mid card was a bit weak in 97 and 98, so that could have been better.

Austin vs. Mcmahon should have ended at the right time when it was suppose to be "End of An Era" imo.

I agree it would have been great to see HBK being able to stick around during the attitude era that he helped usher in. HBK in 2000 would have been awesome.

Don't know if the Invasion Era lands under this or not, but if it does to some I would definitely consider that be to rectified.

Re: What Could Have Made The Attitude Era Even Better?

Another couple of big time companies at the time, doing shows on the same night (any night but monday or sunday) and that would have been insane. Then you'd have a 4 way battle (5 if you count ECW) for supremacy and a whole lot more crazy switches and roster changes. After all the best part of that era was never knowing which show to watch, Raw or Nitro. Who was going to turn up where? What are each show going to do to out-draw the other?

As already mentioned, it would be better if it wasn't full of bad storylines and wrestler.

There is nothing seen through more nostalgic glasses than the AE.

I think with the roster they had, WWE did quite well in 1998-1999. Austin and Taker's injury leave hurt a bit, so there's that. Not sure how else it could have been better, it was a pretty awesome era.

Agreed.

Vince winning the Rumble, then having the cage match with Austin in February. The continuing feud between Rock and Mankind. That whole build was legendary.

This, to some extent.

The problem with it as a notion is that Shawn was such a prick during that time, whose life was completely out of control. Had the Shawn Michaels of 2002 surfaced in, say, 1999, it would have been terrific. A guy purely focused on having good matches, entertaining the fans, etc.

Seeing him feud with The Rock would have been amazing. Other possibilities include Mankind (their Mind Games match alone deserved a full-length program), Triple H when he was the best wrestler in the world (2000), as well as more stuff with Stone Cold and Undertaker.

He would have made a perfect corporate champion once The Rock had become a fully-fledged face. Shawn Michaels and Triple H parallel to Stone Cold and The Rock would have been unbelievably entertaining.

This is a forum listing what could have possibly made it better. I don't have the ability to change the past and I doubt you think I have to, but now we're older and have the opportunity to watch it back I was just wondering what people thought could have made it better on reflection.
