You could argue that marketing made both guys seem 100x better than they really were, especially Jordan. Jordan imo isnt as good as Magic or Bird but of course hes thrown above them. Had Magic and Bird had that marketing, who knows...

What? Are you saying that "Space Jam" simply had a cult following or did Bugs put over Jordan for years?

And what do you mean by "dayjob"?

bugs was already over, why else would they put the two together before the movie even came out?

Hogan did house shows and tv recordings while everthing else was on the side

So, you're saying because he did a movie while playing basketball, that Hogan is more important for marketing?

Do people even know what marketing even means?

The Jordan brand is grossing nearly a billion dollars a year. Just off shoes and clothing, that transcends beyond the game of basketball. In the 90s, you had Jordan appearing in cartoons, music videos, commercials for McDonalds, Hanes, Gatorade, Wheaties, Sprite, cameos on television shows, all while being the best basketball player in a legit sport.

The man, the brand, was everywhere. His shoes alone have become a permanent fixture in hip hop culture. And the appeal in the 90s that had these kids buying his brand was because "they wanted to be Like Mike".

Basically, you people are limiting Jordan to basketball, when most of his endorsements come from outside of basketball, all from top franchises in the business world. In the 90s, everybody wanted Jordan to endorse their product.

There's really no comparison, regardless of whether or not basketball is more watched than wrestling, it's the fact that a kid 27 years later would have a brand that grosses nearly a billion dollars a year, on top of many of his other outside projects AWAY from the game of basketball. Hogan's name is only good for marketing INSIDE the wrestling business and to an extent at that because TNA hasn't gotten more press because of him.

The shit Hogan did in the 80s, as for promotion, Jordan did in the 80s, 90s, 00s and still doing today. No comparison.

Re: Who was more important for marketing Hulk Hogan or Michael Jordan?

Let's put it like this...>THe NBA is STILL...STILL...let me repeat....STILL recovering from the post bulls era Jordan and they're STILL trying to label and find the "next MJ." Hulk Hogan goes hand and hand with wrestling, but you're talking about one of the top 2 or 3 sports icons in memory here. Jordan helped expand the NBA to heights that they didn't even think was possible at the time. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

But this is a good topic cause Hogan brought the WWE and basically wrestling to heights we haven't seen...TWICE. So there IS some similarities.

But come on, it's Michael friggin Jordan here, lol.

Lookin at your screenname I can see you're point of view. And as Bball fan...i know MJ and Bird changed the game and the NBA as well as other legends....That said...

Michael Jordan's the best bball player of all time. In fact the hype is too much that people don't even really look at how damn good he really was IMO.

lol

when did this become a discussion on who makes more money? Hogan was a solo superstar, jordon wasn't, you could reeplace him with almost any nba front runner as long as the loony tunes were there EVERY step of the way Hogan on the other hand was one of a kind

The Jordan/Looney Tunes cross promotion didn't begin until 1993.

Okay, define marketing for me before I continue with anything else.

anyone here can define it all they want but, to put it simply

if jordon was really all that great he would have been alone in the spotlight just like Shaq did

Hogan, as far as the majority of the world is concerned WAS THE WHOLE SHOW, simple as
