Re: 1995: The year in prowrestling that sucked tremendously
A rookie beating Hogan, that was shocking. And 17 years later he's still winning world titles. Take that for what it's worth. And he has faced every legend in both companies.
Re: 1995: The year in prowrestling that sucked tremendously
I get the vibe that Hogan saw something special in Big Show and allowed him to go over Hogan for the title in his first match. Not to mention, I've read that Hogan somewhat was responsible for Big Show joining WWE, as Hogan somehow set the deal up.
Still doesn't take away from that dreadful Monster Truck angle or the "son of Andre" deal that was quickly forgotten about.
Re: 1995: The year in prowrestling that sucked tremendously
Yeah, don't think you'll find many folk defending 1995 as a year for mainstream wrestling. But I guess things have to get worse before they'll get better. That's what I keep telling myself with the modern era...
Re: 1995: The year in prowrestling that sucked tremendously
Well, the only positives to come out of 1995 on the WWF side of things were a few REALLY, really good matches like Shawn Michaels vs Jeff Jarrett for the Intercontinental title, Shawn Michaels vs Diesel match for the WWF title at WrestleMania 11, Bret Hart vs Diesel's match at the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series for the WWF title, and Bret Hart vs Davey Boy for the WWF title at the In Your House: Season's Beatings. Other than that, I agree that 1995 was the worst year for wrestling as a whole.
Re: 1995: The year in prowrestling that sucked tremendously
So I finally decided to post (really meant to post a little sooner, but forgot).
I didn't like EVERYTHING about 1995 or the New Generation Era, but there were still alot of enjoyable mid-card/main event wrestlers and feuds at the time IMO. People like The Undertaker (possibly my favorite incarnation of him was during that era), Bret Hart, Lex Luger, Yokozuna, The Million Dollar Corporation, various other wrestlers/tag teams, and that one little group of rising superstars who ran shit backstage.....forgot the name, DAMNIT!
But seriously, I have alot of nostalgic memories of watching/being a fan of wrestling back then as a kid & that era created a good amount of future superstars and legends. While it might be considered one of the worst periods in wrestling, I consider it my overall favorite era and 1995 one of my favorite years ever.

Nothing in WCW made much sense
However, it did produce Nitro and in retrospect, ECW was getting it's foot in the door with talent and angles that all would play a big part in the business over the next 2 years (Austin, Cactus Jack, adult oriented storylines). I think at that point, both WCW & WWF were throwing shit on the wall to see what would stick. It's like both companies knew what they wanted to do but didn't know how to make it happen. For WCW, it was a blessing for Hall & Nash to sign. For WWF, it was a blessing that Russo was a breath of fresh air and a different breed of writer.
But yeah, 1995 had to be the worse (especially for Vince) and I can't see how anyone can say that 2012 was worse than 1995. What would you rather have: Cena main eventing with quality opponents or Diesel main eventing with Mabel & Sid?
Dude you have NO FUCKING IDEA what your saying!!WM 12 took place on March 31, 1996 NOT 1995! WM 11 took place in April 2, 1995

Pettengill is so underrated.
I began watching in '95, not long after WrestleMania XI. Looking back on the time, I'm surprised that didn't turn me away from watching. 18 years later, still here.

How is that a typo!!!! he didnt make a gramatical error or spelling error nor did his finger slipped. He clearly thought MW12 took place in 1995 which is not true and no i was not trying to "own" him! the dude likes to point finger at others for very subtle things and i point at him for a crystal clear mistake and people are rushing to his defence.
