Re: Creatively, would the WWF been better off if they didn't buy WCW?
there are actually people on the web saying that competition doesn't make things better, as bad an argument as they got
these might be the same neanderfals that say that its good that tna and wwe show on separate days *crying child voice* so that they don't have to choose *crying child voice*

WCW, however, wasn't real competition before they died. That's the point people are making. Not buying WCW wouldn't have mattered, WCW was nearly dead, a money pit. They wouldn't have pushed the WWE creatively because the WWE wouldn't feel threatened by them.

Simply having a show on the same night doesn't make another company competition.

Re: Creatively, would the WWF been better off if they didn't buy WCW?
They'd have been better creatively if they got the big WCW stars immediately for the invasion storyline.
If they could have had Bischoff spearheading the invasion rather than Stephanie and Shane, that right away would have made a huge difference imo. Dunno how they'd have worked it creatively... maybe instead of having Flair appear in January 2002 saying he bought Stephanie and Shane's stock - have Bischoff buy it and reveal it right away or something.
He's invaded with his WCW guys, his main weapon being Goldberg instead of Booker T (all respect to him, he'd still have a place in the storyline just not as their main guy). A Goldberg vs Austin feud at this point in time as the spearpoint of the whole storyline - wow.
nWo invade and cause havoc independently, as well as a select group of the ECW guys lead by Heyman. No alliances, just four big factions fighting for supremacy with huge names everywhere. That's what it should have been.
But alas, it was what it was, and we are where we are. Would they have advanced better creatively without buying WCW? Who knows man.

If they would have gotten bigger names on both the WCW and ECW sides the Invasion would have been the greatest angle/storyline ever. And also ECW hated every single thing about WCW so that alliance made no sense.

True.
I can't help but feel that if they actually pulled in the bigger WCW names and just brought out the big contracts, WM 18 would have been such an amazing PPV.
Honestly, ECW could have just been left out of it. They were never going to have the chance to even mirror WWE and quite frankly, they were just pointless in that entire angle.

Re: Creatively, would the WWF been better off if they didn't buy WCW?
It would've been cool if they'd bought WCW on the sly, without announcing it on TV, and ran the WCW invasion angle on both Raw and Nitro, making it seem more explosive and legitimate. If they'd run WCW until Wrestlemania 18, they could've played the Invasion angle out in a much better way, with all of the WCW talent, building up to a WCW vs WWF event in 2002.
