Analyze This: Cultural Difference in Wrestling

Puroresu, Lucha Libra, Pro-Wrestling in US, Europe all these have evolved based on the cultural aspect of the specific region or country. Very few have been exposed to more than one style extensively and each of us have preference to one style over the other.

Even within U.S, Southern Style is considered unique compared to WWE format if I am not mistaken.

This is simply an attempt for all of us to share the culture and unique attributes of the wrestling style that we love and grew up with. I am privy only to WCW/WWE which I guess comes under North American style other than the Lucha Libre I caught on youtube.

One thing I find distinct is the openness in being a Face and Heel to the extent of declaring it explicitly, preference to spots over storytelling, strong mat style (Atleast in the older days) to back up the flying and importance of mask/hair over the title while in North America, more importance is given to what happens before and after the bell than during the match where entertainment and Soap takes precedence over actual wrestling. Your thoughts on the style you grew up on/with.

P.S: Let us not deride one over another and stick to sharing our thoughts on the style/culture we like.

I like Puroresu the most, because it's all about one-upmanship, and that represents what Japanese people are all about. Storytelling is usually based on that, and I love it.

They are more stiff and follow a shoot style though the results are pre-determined as in US if I am not wrong and Karl Gotch is credited with the induction of Shoot style right?

Re: Analyze This: Cultural Difference in Wrestling

I suppose the typical N. American style (or WWE) is what I'm most familiar with. I've seen some lucha on Univision (or whatever the spanish network is called) and well....its not easy for me to watch lucha.
