A team like no other in it's own unique way with a charismatic musician turned wrestler,
Michael P.S Hayes being at the helm, Gordy being the strongman and Roberts being the fast guy and consisting of three men in a tag team instead of the usual two plus manager format or four men stable format.
Starting out in WCCW, their feud with Von Erichs was legendary by itself started on account of Gordy slamming Kerry Von Erich on to steel cage, something that did not happen as frequently as now then I suppose.
They went out to perform across NWA, AWA, UWF sticking together as a team with their second most famous feud coming against the Road Warriors in AWA which ended with a loss for the latter when Freebirds helped out their friend Jimmy Garvin and Steven Regal (not William Regal).
They started to pursue singles titles but sticking together and looking out for each other as a stable in WCCW with Gordy and Roberts winning the Heavyweight and TV titles respectively while Hayes took care of managing them. When Roberts started to slow down, they took in Jimmy Garvin as a freebird in their WCW stint winning numerous tag titles reigns before dissolving in 1994.
Their brief WWF run in 1984 ended with Vince Mcmahon wanting to break up the team putting their team above working for WWF staying as friends and a team outside kayfabe as well as inside.
With 28 tag title runs across all promotions that mattered in North America, Their most important contribution would be freebird rule where the freebirds are the tag champions but the title can be defended by any two of the three and bringing in Rock and Roll music for entrances; both things that has been used a lot ever since.
