Does anyone know how long this story was planned for? I just watched SS99 when it happened and The Big Show entering the Triple Threat match was completely stupid. Obviously he had to get the title at some point because of his contract but it seemed out of nowhere that he was involved after his story lines with the Big Bossman.

I read that Stone Cold was injured and had to have surgery; Was this planned weeks before the PPV or did the injury occur last minute with Big Show as a late replacement? It ruined the PPV for me and I can't even remember Stone Cold getting injured.

They planned the angle weeks in advance after Austin knew when he would have surgery.

Show as a replacement was an obvious choice. Only other two choices could have been Foley and Test. But Test as champion would have been too soon probably anf Foley was in a tag feud with the Outlaws, first with Snow and later with Rock.

Show replacing Austin had three big upsides for them:
a. Show was supposed to eventually win the title and main event Mania
b. They didn't have to change other major feuds at the time: Kane/X-Pac and Outlaws/Rock'n'Sock. They just did Bossman vs Show for the title at Armageddon instead of regular singles match and only had to switch Austin with Vince to fight HHH, who were already feuding.
c. I heard Show was even planned to be revelaed as the guy that ran over Austin. And with him replacing Austin they gave Show a motive when he would be revealed.

Supposedly had Austin's neck stayed intact, Triple H was going to retain against Stone Cold & The Rock with Hunter dropping the title to Rock at The Royal Rumble with Rock dropping it to Austin at WM 16 with the planned heel turn only one year earlier.

This storyline was added last min bc the original plan was to have Austin face Rock at WM 16 and have him put over Rock but he conveniently left. There was also much speculation at the time of turning SC heel bc Rock had clearly become the top face despite crap booking. The sole reason for SS 99 was to see how much more popular Rock was than Austin to see if they needed to turn him heel or maybe do a face against face match.
