If you're going to push someone you might as well finish the push. Over that Summer they pushed him so hard with the whole Stephanie angle and then just dropped him. It was the hottest he ever was in his career. Sure he wasn't amazing and he probably would have been a one time champion (maybe 2 time if his popularity was increased enough by the reign) but that was the time to do it if they were switching the title. Not giving it to the Big Slow and his ultimate shoehorning into WM2000, although I must say I liked the Big Slow/Rock's Royal Rumble/NWO feud.

By the way, Shane managing Test would be more logical then him managing Show.

The reason why the Test push was dropped is because of the change in the writing team. There were some guys who were known as Vince Russo guys who would become WWE champions in the Attitude Era if he stayed as head writer, these guys were Jeff Jarrett, D'Lo Brown and Test.
D'Lo was pushed the classic way (part of a stable, tag team with Mark Henry, European champion, IC champion) and Russo planned to make him champion, Jeff Jarrett was even planned to be a main eventer in 1998 (I don't know if someone remembers the shoot interview with Jim Ross in 1998 where he talked about the tradition of the Jarretts and where he promised to win the gold) but Steve Austin refused to work with him. Russo even cut a promo on Nitro the night after Jarrett won his first WCW world title where he said that Jim Ross can kiss his ass because Jarrett was world champion and JR was always against this idea.
The third guy Test, the athletic version of Kevin Nash was also supposed to win the title but after Russo left they dropped it. Survivor Series took place after the change in the writing team.
You talk about how Test was hot during that time and he really was but the Attitude Era before and after Russo felt like two different companies. It absolutely meant nothing who was red hot during the Russo, the change of the writing team changed everything

Test would have been cool with me. Especially as a 9 year old who was a fan of his considering the push. Per usual things change.

Funny how Trips stole Steph away from Test too. Damn, that could have fed right into the WWF championship picture. Ok, now I'm slightly annoyed this didn't go down. Big Show has proven to be a solid investment well worth their time though. So, it appears Vince did make the right decision.

This PPV as a whole is SO bad though. I think one match was decent.

I knew creative team went wrong Big Show won WWF title Survivor Series 99 heard he'll get title shot in his 1st year, Russo left Sept 99 cause Mr McMahon was pushing him 2 book both RAW-SD shows twice a week, Russo weren't happy & joined WCW. Test would be WWF champ but Rock went uphill with popularity, Rock would still win Rumble match & Test beats HHH WWF title, if Russo was there in 2000 I think Y2J-Benoit wins WWF title with good title reigns, feud with Rock, HHH, Kurt Angle & Undertaker. Trish manages Edge & Christian, it'll be funny as hell all 3 of em 5 second pose. That's awesome

I'd of just had HHH/Rock and get a head start on one of the biggest and best main event feuds in history.

Funny how it morphed into HHH/Rock only a few months later as it is. Big Show's interjection was left in the dust.

I remember being perplexed that Big Show won. I was like "really? The guy that you've basically jobbed out most of his first year and turned heel/face like 3 or 4 times already is your champion now" and when you had Rock & HHH to choose from, it was even more confusing.

Personally, I would just kept the belt on HHH.

Survivor Series 1999 was the start of one of the greatest storylines of the Attitude Era. Who ran over Stone Cold Steve Austin was the talk of the town. It produced some of the funniest (the Steve Blackman & Shane McMahon promos, Mick Foley's investigation), the weirdest (Rikishi's I did it for the people, I did it for the Rock promo) and the best matches (Stone Cold vs. Triple H at Survivor Series 2000). It had a year of great built-up.

However, underlying in that event was the supposed triple threat match for the WWF Championship between Triple H x the Rock x Stone Cold. Arguably the greatest triple threat match to never happen. This match never occurred because of the story-line that Stone Cold got ran-over by a car and the behind-the-camera injuries of Stone Cold.

The replacement for Stone Cold during the event was the Big Show who went on to win the WWF Championship that night. However, it was rumored and, what some of the fans were thinking, was that Test could have been the replacement for Stone Cold. This was the time when Test was fresh-off the McMahon-Martin wedding which was interrupted by Triple H. He was way over with the fans and had a good PPV showing against Shane McMahon at SummerSlam 1999. He never actually had a feud with Triple H after the wedding incident.

So if you had to book that night? Who would you have chosen to replace Stone Cold that night? Test or the Big Show?

Personally, I would have picked Test. The Big Show after Survivor Series had the worst WWF Championship feud in history, in my opinion, against the Big Boss Man after this event. It was funny and bad TV. The Big Show would then lose the title to Triple H the Raw after the new year. Test, on the other hand, was one of the most agile big men in that time. Trained by Stu Hart, he had both a power and a little high-flying moves in his skill set. Moreover, he had the look of the time. The only downside for Test was that he was subpar as a stickman. If Test would've won the title that night, he could've had faced Triple H at Armageddon. This could have changed the career of Test both in the short-term and in the long run (we all know that the Big Show would win a world championship one way or the other later on)
I forgot about the WWE liking to change the title on the first Raw of the year. They done it in '99 with Rock to Mankind as well. Let's hope they don't continue that trend in 2013...

Anyway, on topic. Test would have made some logical sense but I had no real issue with Big Show stepping in and getting that obligatory little run. His feud with Bossman was ludicrous but funny and then he dropped the title to HHH so they could get down to serious business on the RTWM. Sure, he was a part of the ME at 'Mania that year but let's face it, no one was turning up to see Big Show in that match. Foley lasted longer than him and he was retired!

And as a side note on the whole Austin being run over thing - they shouldn't have fucked about with a big, stupid swerve and making Rikishi the driver when he wasn't even with the damn company. No frills, no Russo-esque decisions. Austin comes back, raises Hell looking for the driver and finds out in dramatic fashion it was The Game. They have their feud as it went from Survivor Series 2000 and everything is fine in the World.
