British Bulldog's Return In 99

How does everyone think Davey Boy Smith did on his return to the then WWF in 1999? I was too young to remember him even coming back but he was obviously a big wrestler in the 90s.

Should he have left it? Was Vince wrong to bring him back with previous his steroid abuse?

I read somewhere that Steve Blackman said when he fought him he wanted the match to be over as soon as purpose and made sure it was because he feared for his safety.

I'm not sure if he was good on the mic but watching his first appearance as SGR at Smackdown when he cheated The Rock and the build-up to Unforgiven, he didn't seem to be that charismatic.

Please note: I've not watched past Unforgiven so please don't ruin the upcoming months please :)

It was good just because it was a former star returning, but he was completely burned out from a ring/work perspective. Couldn't do shit.

The most memorable moment of that final WWF run Bulldog had imo was the sliding/gliding People's Elbow Rock gave him on that one Smackdown lol.

Yeah, it was a brief stint and tried to fit into the mix but it just wasn't working for him at that point. I'm not so sure if creative knew what do with British Bulldog in 1999.

Not forgetting the Rock Bottom on the dog shit.

All in all, I thought his last run was shit. His ring attire was jeans and boots which didn't really suit him at all, and he got paired up with the Mean Street Posse for no reason whatsoever.

Didn't he get Rock Bottomed in some dog shit or something too?

Think I remember him winning the Hardcore or European title at a UK PPV around that time as well. Other than that he was pretty much useless. Just wearing Jeans didn't help either as he looked dull as shit.

Edit: Lol, seems I didn't even need to post since the guy above me said everything :p.

Hm, I actually liked his look with the jeans and boots, thought he looked pretty badass.. That would definitely stand out nowadays in between all those trunks lol.
Other than his look I remember him being pretty much useless during his '99 run.

Oh yeah, he'd definitely stand out now. Problem was, back then, it was the Attitude Era, and I feel they tried to make Bulldog look more...what's the word...'street'? Or more edgy to keep up with the times.

In my opinion, he's not that kind of guy, and I feel that people just saw him as some other Joe Schmoe with street clothes rather than the colourful red, white and blue UK patriarch everyone loved and respected.

It actually reminds me of when they brought in Steiner. They seemed to be bringing in top former wwe wrestlers to come in and be the big face, take on trips and get the shovel. You could easily tell they didn't give much of a shit about Bulldog while he was there in 99.. The mean street posse thing is a perfect example.

I have no idea. I don't remember much about his return, he was booked pathetically. As a supporter of Bulldog from the NGE days, I can say he looked out of place in a major way. They tried updating his look like they did with the Bossman but they had no idea where he fit in the product at the time. Truth be told...he didn't belong.
