This storyline was kinda lame apart from the epic "it's me Austin!" line and I didn't really feel the Corporate Ministry faction that resulted either.

Yeah. It was rumored around that time and I even recollect hearing about The Snake's history with Rattlesnake (I just whooped your ass) and his relationship with Taker (Warrior angle) which was played out by J.R at that time. I came to know about The Snake, in fact, from that angle as I started with AE/MNW. Would have been wonderful if it was Jake, revealing it was Vince practically blew it for me for that was what he was doing for such a long time and he did not need the Ministry Angle.

Spoiler for the meek shall inherit Squat..:

Never heard that one before. I heard it was initially supposed to be The Jackyl.

Re: Was Jake Roberts meant to be 'Taker's higher power (1999)

Hi all, just joined the forum and this is my post.

I've recently watched the whole of 1999, I have the recordings burned onto my hard drive. Although I'm not sure how true it was, JR does say 'Is it Jake The Snake Roberts' on his list of people the higher power could've been. I think it was just a rumour because it was an anti-climax being someone internal (Vince).

When I watched it at the time I was shocked it was Vince, although after watching it some 10 years later; it's obvious with the pre-recorded video by Vince.

It would've made sense for Jake to be the Higher Power because Stone Cold basically turned him into a catchphrase.
This. It will make so much sense.

Does anyone know why The Jackyl (The original choice) was fired?

He was rumored at the time. I do remember reading that back then on the net. DiBiase's name also came up alot lot in discussion.

But the fact that McMahon mentioned Jake on TV as a possible suspect pretty much eliminated him in my eyes.

I always thought it was going to be Ted Dibiase as well. Anyone made more sense than Mcmahon though.
