Lightbulb Why I Like Flair So Much

Can you name any wrestler in living memory who had a better combination of the factors that go into assessing overall quality than Ric Flair? I can't. He was the best performer in the ring over a longer period of time than anyone in the last 60 years. He had longevity, while guys like Austin and Micheals didn't, and could wrestle, while Hogan was limited in the ring. The Rock was a bigger star, but had a short wrestling career. Flair had as many great matches over a lengthy period of time as anybody. He could make bad wrestlers look good, and was arguably the best talker ever. He held the most world titles. Only The Rock matched his mic skills, but the Rock's promo's were practiced and repetitive. Flair's were varied and spontaneous. The Rock couldn't wrestle like Flair. Neither could Austin. Terry Funk lasted longer and great mic skills, but Flair was a better wrestler and had better mic skills. To top it off, Flair held world titles in all 3 major organizations, and can still wrestle. Other than all that, he sucks.

While you were in Hollywood making movies, Thunderlips, I was winning world titles. I bled and I sweat and I paid the price to call myself the REAL WORLD CHAMPION. Big Man! I'm calling you out and I'm telling you this: Until you beat Ric Flair, you're just second fiddle. Woooo!

You see that little girl in the front row with those eyes so big and those lips so moist? She's thinking to herself right now as something's going through her, "Oh my God! NATURE BOY! WHAT'S CAUSING ALL THIS!"

I'm pretty sure everything you just attributed to Flair, the same can be said for Jerry Lawler, who from what I understand, is a reasonable choice for wrestler of the 80s.

Personally, I like Flair too. But, let's not forget why he was on top for so long.

Why I like Ric Flair so much :

He's the GOAT in the following criteria ;

- In-ring talent
- Mic skills (Rock isn't even close)
- Consistency
- Longevity

Flair in 1989 is better than about 95 percent of Wrestler's careers. Matches vs Steamboat, Funk, etc coupled with some of the most GOLDEN promos ever ? The old man is probably featured in about half of my top 50 matches ever anyways. Even in his last WWE run he was still a top 5-10 performer despite being a bajillion years old. I'm 99 percent convinced that if he wanted he could school practically everybody in the E' nowadays sans Cena, Punk, and Bryan.

Don't fuck with the true GOAT

I love Flair. He's certainly one of the best, if not the best. I think some of the things that hurt him come down to nit-picking, which when you're trying to create lists, you're forced to do.

For me, I think Stan Hansen is the best. Just an insane brawler with a plethora of great matches. But he doesn't have the track record of Flair, or the promo of Flair & most of his best stuff happened in Japan.

I love Terry Funk but sometimes his selling comes off as way too cartoony for me. When he's in crazy old man mode, there's no one better. When he's doing spaghetti legs, my suspension of disbelief goes out the window.

Flair stuck around too long, his act went from cool, to nostalgic, to old hat. I also wasn't a fan of him as a babyface at all. I felt like he gave some guys WAY too much in their matches & he never really had a finish as the Figure Four was always a joke that people reversed, got out of or reached the ropes during. I always thought that hurt him.

Steamboat has the look, has the matches, has almost everything but he couldn't promo & couldn't work heel.
Savage had the look, had some good matches, had the promo, could work face or heel but the second half of his run (WCW) sucked.

It just depends on what you're looking for.

Savage post-DDP feud .... Just no.

I mean, I LOVE the guy and I legitimately believe that when combining In-ring talent, consistency, mic skills, and overall appeal (in the eyes of a TRUE wrestling fan, not one of these "GOAT FORUM POSTERS") that he's probably better than anybody else in history sans Flair and MAYBE Austin. Shame that his reputation amongst the casual fan is an amazing one, when it should be GOD-LIKE.

Long live the king of the Slim Jim and the taker of Sweet Stephanie Mcmahon's underage virginity

The mans in my top 10 for sure might even be number four behind, Funk, Austin and Eddie.

Great story teller in that ring. The I quit match he had with Funk at Clash Of The Champions was story telling at its best, The wasn't any need for them to use weapons or anything like that to get the match over, They could do that just by just using the moves themselves, easily for me the best I quit match ever.

Great mic worker to after Mick Foley I would have Flair in that number two spot, no one could put themselves over as well as Flair could the stylin and profiling promos where always the best talking about him jets and custom made suits, he made you know that he was the man and every one else with their silver belts where always under him in the rankings because he had that big gold belt.

OP, I don't understand. You list why you think Flair was so great but at the end, you say he sucks.

What gives? What gives?

Stone Cold had everything

Great mic skills-His mic skills in 1996-1997 revolutionised pro-wrestling

In-ring skills-Austin vs Bret is the greatest match

Rivalries-Austin vs Bret,Rock and McMahon are top 5 rivalries of all time

Entertainment-Nobody has had more memorable moments than Austin

Longevity is where Austin lacks.Flair was relevant only from 1978 to 1995.The rest of his 40 year career he was just another guy

Ric Flair is simply the greatest wrestler of all time, the greatest all-rounder. Also, he the most charismatic fucker out there, it's simply impossible to root against him, even if he's wrestling your favorite wrestler.
