Laying the smack down did not originate in wrestling. Most likely came from football.

Pretty sure jabroni started in wrestling, never heard that term anywhere else, Id always thought the Iron Sheik started that but a google says it was the Rock, I guess Sheik picked up on it, same way he uses 'gimmie a hell yeah' sometimes.

4 life - first i heard of it in wrestling was with the NWO but they were taking stuff from gangsta rap at the time, I guess Tupac's 'death row 4 life' is where that came from, I recall Nash mentioning they were way into that stuff at the time. Its an old term anyway.

I certainly remember hearing the word jabroni, and smackdown before I ever heard them on wrestling.

Jabroni is a word used in Italian slang from what I remember. I looked it up online and apparently it is like calling someone an idiot but more offensive.

I could not find an origin for Smackdown although I do remember hearing it used in football like another poster said. It was funny to see peole give the Rock credit for the word on many sites, even though JR used it before he did.

AS for 4 Life, the phrase "for life" was a term used certainly before wrestling popularized it. However the change of "for" to "four" may have been an NWO thing. But it seems more lilely at least to me that it was used by by gangs in both forms.

So no for sure on two, but probably no for all three.

Isn't Smackdown a word made up by WWE/The Rock? It wasn't until a few years after he used it, that it got added into the dictionary as an official word.

It may have gained enough usage to make it in the dictionary based on the WWE/Jim Ross, and later The Rock, but that is not the origin.

The Rock officially invented the word Smackdown and it even was added to dictionary. I haven't heard the word jabroni being used before him.

Nope, but great picture and avatar.

I can understand the confussion as the WWE, and the public have given credit to the Rock all over the internet. But I know Jim Ross was using the word before the Rock.
