Jim Herd was running the show but Ole Anderson took over the booking duties from Dusty Rhodes who was fired at the end of 1988. Herd did come up with the Ding Dings gimmick but Ole actually booked it.

Re: Was Bill Watts really that bad?

Bill's UWF stuff was universally loved with many pushing him as a great booker. He was just a little behind and not following wrestling when he came to WCW, which hurt him.

Re: Was Bill Watts really that bad?

Well, WCW had, in my humble opinion, their best year EVER in terms of amazing matches in 1992. I dunno how much of that was attributed to Watts, but it's worth noting.

What I didn't like was that Watts took away a lot of the production values that differentiated WCW from the WWE at the time.

I was watching 'The Rise and Fall of WCW' the other night and saw the bit on 'The Ding Dongs' and JR's commentary on it was hilarious; "I guess we'll call this one Ding and that one Dong". Cracks me up everytime.

Cracks me up everytime. A more recent tag team that reminded me a bit of them is James and Chad 'The Dicks' who were one smackdown back in 2005.
