My advice is to start watching from mid 96 when Russo was promoted to the WWE creative team.
WWE already became edgier mid 96 with Austin 3:16, the buried alive match and promos, the "Shitman" promo and Brian Pillman with a gun segment. 1997 was a great year but some 97 storylines started back in 96 like Nation of Domination, Bret-Austin rivalry, Taker feuding with Paul Bearer etc.
Try to find everything from the Russo Era (mid 96 to September 99).
Of course every wrestling fan should have the shows from 2000 but there was something in the air during the Russo era 96-99 you can't explain, you need to watch it.
Also, ask for a LiveWire show from October 1996 with McMahon, Cornette and Russo in the same room (that is impossible today) also with Sunny & Michael Hayes and Paul Heyman calling and bashing McMahon and WWE. Pure gold and more entertaining than most current storylines.

KOTR '96 on. You'll have to skip a lot of segments on the RAW's, but it's worth it for the backstory and see the future faces of the company rise through the ranks.

Late 1996-1997 was the most exciting/entertaining period of the WWF IMO. Watch all you can. You MUST check out the first 10 episodes or so of Shotgun Saturday Night as well.

Brilliant!

Looks like late 1996 is the place to start.

Such a shame they didnt have high def in them days. Would make it all seem even better on the 84" projector screen.

Unfortunatly however the link my friend has was a torrent that he streams with utorrent. Not something i can download here so the hunt is still on for a online stream. One day i will get there.

Make sure you get all the big PPV's. Oh, and when you roll into 1998 and 1999, don't forget about Heat and Smackdown. The first few weeks of heat were well worth the watch.
