Forgotten Legends62: Guerrero

Not Eddie, Not Chavo but the patriarch of Guerrero Wrestling family, Gory Guerrero is the legend we are talking about. Along with Santo, Blue Demon and Mil Mascaras, He was one of the innovators who contributed to popularizing Lucha Libre style.

With a career that spilled over 5 decades, he debuted in 1937 wanting to start out on Boxing but eventually taking up Lucha Libre. He started as a jobber but created a signature for himself with a blood involved in his matches taking up the name of "Gory" Guerrero and finally moved into EMLL in 1943.

He held the Mexico Welterweight, middleweight, tag and junior heavyweight titles around his tenure here peaking to challenge Lou Thesz for NWA world heavyweight title unsuccessfully before winning the NWA middleweight title as well. But post that, his career went downstream due to injuries, refusal to drop titles/job and eventually he took a training/booking career wrestling part time.

His contributions however did not end for some of the moves that he is credited with innovating/inventing are Camel Clutch, Gory Special Backbreaker, Gory Bomb, Barry White pile driver, Stu Hart Spl powerbomb, The Deal reverse STO and most famously, Widows Peak.

With 10 titles to his credit and having innovated most moves next only to Lou Thesz, he is truly a forgotten legend.

Spoiler for the meek shall inherit Squat..:
