Is it me or is WCW dark? I mean literally.

I think I noticed this when I was young watching WCW. When I watched WCW the set always seemed dark whilst with WWE the lighting was far brighter and imo better. I think this is true with TNA aswell. The lighting just isn't there yet. It's like it's filmed in a basement.

Funnily enough I honestly always thought the opposite. Funny that.

I used to think the opposite as WCW had more lighting nad pyro effects and budget, they were better and the WWF were thedarker part of the wrestling world.

WCW had more money.

More Money = Better Production Values.

WCW's pyro was awful. WWF always did it better imo. About the only pyro I thought was cool in WCW was when Jericho's didn't go off, that was hilarious but it was an absence of pyro. Which sums things up. Darker is better imo though, I hate the current uber bright WWE, I'd be quite happy for them to drop HD if it meant they could go back to more gloomy Attitude Era lighting.

Re: Is it me or is WCW dark? I mean literally.

There was a dark feel because the backdrops were always black. Even when they added that big star thing it was still in front of a huge dark drape. In comparison to WWF/E, WWF always had the 'Tron that covered the backdrop. I assume you mean this WCW set too:

It was lit up like a tree when on, but you can see how much black there is in the surroundings. Even when they went to the video screen 'tron ripoffs, they were never as big as Vince's and still had the backdrops visible.

Aside the set, sometimes they would lower the "house lights" during matches as a lot of companies did/do so that a lot of the crowd was 'blacked' out while the main lighting emphasis was on the match.

WWF was dark too. Honestly, I think it was darker than WCW.

I accept rep.

Compared to now you would think they turned off almost all the lights during that time both in WWF and WCW.

WCW didn't necessarily look dark, but it did look cheap (in my opinion). Sure, they had fireworks, but I always felt that the WCW product looked a bit low budget (I think it was literally the quality of the cameras that they used). WWE had better quality cameras and broadcast equipment, I think. I might be wromg but WWE's production values always seemed higher. I never liked how weird the WCW ring looked, either.

Huh? Even when WCW was bigger and more successful and had more money, it's production values were NEVER as good. It always felt/looked/sounded cheaper than WWF.
