It's the second time I see someone mention this but every time I try to find information on the subject I can't find anything.
Shawn showed up to some WWF show completely zoned out on pills. He wasn't supposed to perform or anything, but it was obvious that he was high as a kite.

There was a plan for him to come back in some sort of role that year, but HHH nixed the idea because he was in such bad shape with the drugs. Shawn blew up at HHH for "backstabbing" him.

Thank you very much!

Legit lol'ed at Shawn cutting a promo on Triple H in front of everyone and being completely drugged while doing it.

Re: Shawn Michaels back injury saved his life?

I pretty much agree with that. I'd hate to think what would've happened to Shawn had he not been injured and kept on going. The way he was headed, would he even have made it to the year 2000?

If anyone's interested in a timeline of when Shawn & Hunter had their backstage fight and Shawn was fired, it was the Raw before WM 17 where Chris Jericho surprised William Regal by dressing as Doink the Clown. (credit: Jericho's 2nd book)

I think so. Michaels was headed down a bad road in the late 90's. Thank God he got off the drugs and turned his life around.

Genuinely the funniest passage of any wrestling book ever.

Shawn's drug addiction was obviously sad rather than funny but his inability to make sense of the situation read like some Three Stooges stuff.

Jericho would take a bullet for me.

Did Shawn have another match after WM14 before his initial retirement?

No. And he needed to be looked at right after the match; he was quite fucked up, physically.

Looking at the timeline, what probably saved Shawn's life for good was that (ultimately rather brief) falling out he and Triple H/WWE had in late March 2001, right before Wrestlemania XVII.
