When i saw this for the first time, it wasn't live. I saw this video for the first time in mid 1997, when WCW was airing a special episode featuring the whole nWo vs Sting storyline, start to recent episode. BUT i had no access to internet back then. Nor did i have any idea what kayfabe was. It was all real to me till then (of course there were some doubts about pro-wrestling being real, but i used to convince myself that it was 70-80% real for sure)

So when i saw this happen, i had known Hogan for being the epitome of a good guy. So i was very shocked, but i didnt like Hogan very much back then. It would be arrogant to say this, but i was smart enough to cheer for who i wanted to cheer for, not whom story-writers wanted me to cheer. I liked the heel turn, but i was at the same time laughing over the fact that Hogan was calling Nash & Hall the FUTURE, as i had seen both of them compete for years in WWF, and by no means they looked any younger.

I also remember how Hogan was addressing nWo as New World ORGANIZATION throughout his promo. But overall, as a kid, i really found that promo EPIC... still do! This heel turn shits on every other babyface-heel turns ever

In one of the dumbest moves of his mostly blemish-free career, Bobby Heenan kinda ruined it with the whole "Yeah, but who's side is he on?!" thing.

He gave it away.

Would have been a whole helluva lot better if he'd said something like "I never thought I'd say this, but thank God for the Hulkster!" or something.

That being said, it was an INSANE moment, the first true "mega heel" turn in wrestling history. Hell, it reinvented Hogan's career and made him damn near as popular as he was in the mid 1980's boom period.

I wonder what the politics of the Heenan-Hogan, because it's strange that Heenan, who is the heel announcer, is usually on the side of the whole NWO, except Hogan and then the "who side is he on" thing, really interesting to know the backstage of that

There was even some follow up. Soon after the heel turn Hogan and the nWo crashed the announcer's table on Nitro. Hogan offered a handshake to Heenan trying to make peace since Hogan was now heel, and Heenan was ALWAYS heel. Heenan refused and left the area.

Heenan has been asked if he had legit heat with Hogan, but he claims he never did. He just chose to play it off that way because Hogan was always his biggest rival from the AWA Bockwinkel days, the WWF Heenan family up to and including Andre.
