Re: The Origins Of Wrestling

I'd recommend giving the History of the World Heavyweight Championship a watch too. The documentary goes back to the days of Hackenschmidt. Talking about how pro wrestling evolved throughout the years with the WHC. It's rather interesting!

Re: The Origins Of Wrestling

Theres a guy on bloodyelbow.com named John Nash who writes wonderful informative articles on the history of wrestling and mma, mainly focusing on the legends of the shoot era and how that era led to modern pro-wrestling and mma, theres some great reading here, the Wrestling with the past and Martial chronicles entries are always awesome, think he talked about doing an e-book a while ago, dude knows his shit, highly recomended

There were some other cool articles on that site regarding old wrestling history too(especially how Japanese wrestling re-started the shoot trend which led to the mma boom there) but i cant find them right now, they also did a Karl Gotch tribute week a while back that had some great stuff, the articles on Gotch V Hackenschmidt in the link above are top notch.

Been reading up on Gotch V Hackenschmidt today, actually. I also watched some old clips from the 60's on youtube. I'm really interested in the older stuff, as I know so little about it.

Hack was the first "world champion" in pro wrestling. From there the world title has a lineage all the way through to the modern NWA title. McMahon is full of crap claiming that lineage for the Big Gold replica he uses. That belt only traces its lineage to 1986.
